Most people in India are not fair skinned but when you see movie stars or models they mostly seem to be fair skinned. If you are extremely dark then you are even made fun of in public or if you are a girl then ridiculed by in laws. Even the ipl cheerleaders are white girls imported from other countries. Famous indian actors and actress are katrina kaif, salman khan, amir khan, john abraham, preity zinta are fair skinned. Why are Indians so obsessed with white skin? PS: I am dark skinned myself

Something which has been fed since birth by everyone around including school, but mostly its TV ( ads and movies ) but don't blame Indians only, dark skin is still considered inferior in western socities ( which folks are very afraid of uttering ) but has come down considerably over the years I am not sure why IPL is dragged into this? white cheerleaders - are there any special black cheerleaders

Main difference between western societies and Indian societies is that dark skin or even slightly dark skin is not considered good despite the fact that there no whites here and most of us are of similar color.

I am not sure it is a race issue...it is a color issue. Race-wise we are all a perfect mix of the 4 root races. It would be a race issue if dark skins also had same features of africans...u know thick lips, etc. I think it is also a caste issue since in many parts of India upper caste fellows tend to be slightly fairer than their counterparts in the lower classes. This is especially true in Tamil Nadu...u see the Iyers and Iyengars are pretty fair but the non Brahmins aren't all that fair. For the most part our skin color is neither extreme white or black so it allows the possibility of change by the application of creams, etc which is what the beauty products prey on. I am not sure if individuals actually buy these creams to become fairer rather it could be for creating consistent pigmentation...u know remove those black spots and gradients rather than change the whole skin color itself. It's a different thing that ads portray it as changing the whole skin color.

It's actually the perception that people have. This was during US open where 2-3 guys were discussing favs etc, so I simply said it looks like you guys don't like Nadal so this fijindian came to console me saying they have nothing against spanish people. I didn't understand the gist of it but then we clarified that he assumed I was spanish and was surprised to see that I am Indian. In my previous job, another fellow was curious as to how I know so much about Indian Culture? he said he assumed I was latino since the 2 years he was there. A sri lankan said the same, now they all smiled when I said their assumption was coz I wasn't dark and skinny? off course At times I feel I can get away with murder where the cops will be looking for a latino

North indians have been brainwashed due to, first, the presence of muslim hordes (persians are whitish), and then the gora sahibs. You can particularly thank Thomas Macaulay for fvcking up Indian Minds. So it will take few more decades to clean the filth.

don't see the big deal. it all comes down to individual preference. skin color isn't the only attribute in play in the discriminatory world.

Could it be that most humans prefer white to black as an attractive color in general ? A majority of kids would prefer a white doll to a black one doesn't mean they're racist.

Perfectly fine as long as one doesn't discriminate,no?

Perfectly fine as long as one doesn't discriminate' date='no?[/quote'] Of course its fine. I find it silly when certain traits of beauty are acceptable to desire (height, hair, eye/lip color etc) but hey, changing your skin color is taboo.

Each one of us is an African..Its all just pigmentation
I am not very sure about that Yods. The theory that proposes that homo sapiens original race is negroid basically believes we have been existing for a max of 50k years. However geneology tells us that we must be existing for at least 250,000 years. I don't think it is everything to do with pigmentation...pigmentation is responsible for color not for features. I believe we have evolved from more than one ape. There is evidence in China that the apes there had more mongoloid features. I don't think we all evolved from one mutation in an Eve. There is really no evidence to support it and yet there is a theory based on belief and not evidence.

I have seen beautiful dark skinned girls in my office and ugly fair skinned girls as well. Beauty is nothing to do with skin tone. I am a fair skinned guy but i prefer wheatish type of girls. I feel sick when a group of people sitting together and when they see a dark skinned guy they just make fun of him for no reason. I was sitting with my friend , an extremely dark skinned guy came out of a reddish coloured car. He laughed at him for no reason and said some unwanted comments. I was pissed off and asked him why he hated the guy for no reason. My friend then made fun of me saying i am a vivekanandha and i should become a saint. I dnt knw folks, the world is like this, deal with it.:((

++ People just need/find reasons to feel superior or make others feel inferior. Skin color is most common of them, as it is the immediate and largest visual clue right in your face.
