Just goes to show that cricket's popularity is going down. Several reasons for low turn around at Eden 1) IPL 2) expensive tickets 3) can watch on TV or net 4) too much cricket 5) DIWALI- people are busy shopping etc.

Yes, I heard even the Wankhede was only at 50% capacity for the previous game. The thing is that people in metros barely have time for this stuff. IPL works because of the duration. But you are being harsh on the Kolkatans here. We've already won this series and this game is pretty meaningless. Maybe more people will turn up in the evening. Contrast this with matches in small towns- Vizag, Nagpur, Kanpur etc where an ODI will be a full house irrespective of the day of the week and the opponent.

This is what happens when a series doesnt have adequate hype and build up. You need enough time for the advertising and publicity to work to create anticipation and excitement for a series. This is the reason IPL couldnt generate enough viewership this year simply because it happened right after the World Cup.

Also lot's of last minute shopping to do before the Diwali tomorrow hence wives must've put their feet down and asked partners to be available during the day and evening and instead catch the match on telly once back from shopping...

Will need some innovation like heavily discounted student tickets and free tickets for school kids to see the grounds full. We faced a similar situation in the last home season during the NZ tests and ODIs, will see the same during the WI series as well.

No. I remember stadiums being jam packed on and before festival days many times before. That doesnt have anything to do with lack of attendance.

Don't think the state associations worry too much about gate receipts. More than half the tickets are anyways given as complimentary passes. In Delhi, for a capacity of 50k, hardly 10k tickets are sold in the open market, rest of them being given to club memebrs, state police, and other admin departments. It's the same scene everywhere else.
