Ian Bishop felt he was developing into a good fast bowling prospect. Winning fulsome praise from cricketers of such calibre is no mean feat. That was the time Vikram Rajveer Singh, alias VRV Singh, had it all: raw pace and a fast bowler's height and physique. He played his last competitive game in 2010 (for Kings XI Punjab against CSK). Just where has VRV been? His body has been injury-prone, forcing him to miss the whole of last season. At the Sector 16 Stadium here, VRV is undergoing rehabilitation after a back surgery earlier this year. He's hoping that times will change for the better. "I have been working on strengthening my lower body (the back). So far I've had positive results, for I don't feel the pain anymore. I am working on strengthening of my muscles at the Sector 16 Stadium which is close to my house. I will start bowling in three-four weeks," said VRV, who once enjoyed the same kind of attention as the new breed of India quicks, Varun Aaron and Umesh Yadav. When he was playing at the top level, questions had been asked about his attitude and fitness levels. The burly pacer, however, wants to start afresh. "I want to start from scratch. Whatever be the situation, I don't want to compromise on my pace because that has been my strength," he said, adding that getting fit to play the Ranji Trophy matches for his state team, Punjab, is his immediate target. The VRV we knew might have been forgotten, or lost in hibernation, but he believes he can stage a comeback. "I've often thought," he said, a touch wistfully, "how unlucky I've been. But I've no regrets, neither am I hurt. I was out of the Indian team not because of my performances but owing to my injuries which you can't control. speed_demon Posted October 27, 2011 Posted October 27, 2011 VRV if he comes back, could actually do us a lot of favor, people will stop taunting us using his name, as the entire nation got excited and thought he is the next best fast bowler for india, but turned out to be a huge disappointment. Wish him good luck, hope he puts in a lot of effort, and stages a comeback, even if thats for a couple of good years, india will take it.
Dravid_TheWall Posted October 27, 2011 Posted October 27, 2011 I remember piestersen slogging him in an odi match, think vrv only bowled 5 overs for 41 runs or something. In tests in South Africa he was starting to show he can utilise bounce. However, he simply isn't good enough.

gakgupta Posted October 27, 2011 Posted October 27, 2011 i heard he is a 145 K occasionally hitting 150 mark....but never seen him bowling that fast ..........but usually after couple of injuries fast bowlers tend to become strong and less injury prone....lets wait and see what he has in store for us.

WE are improving in terms of fast bowling prospects we are finding now.

Difference being Munaf and Singh were bowling quick in the longer format. Umesh and Aaron are unproven in the longer format and haven't been as quick as they are in the shorter formats.

Umesh and Aaron are unproven in the longer format and haven't been as quick as they are in the shorter formats. But both played shorter format as well but were not quicker than Yadav and Aaron. Yadav showed even in Irani cup that he can sustain pace even in a 10-over spell though I would say sustaining pace in Test is a hard job and captain will need to use these guys in short spells to keep them fresh. If you remember ODIs after WI tour, Munaf was not that quick in them as well. MUnaf was quick but not like Yadav or Aaron. Both these guys can average in 140s for 10 overs. Munaf was not like that. Though he could bowl his fastest at around 145K, but his average was around 85-86. On consistent basis, Aaron and Yadav are faster which is important.
