msb1991 Posted November 12, 2011 Posted November 12, 2011 Take a look at his stats in test cricket against top sides ' date='you will get your answer about his test credantials.Barring Zim and Banglades,he has been a mediocre test bowler.[/quote'] Since remodelling his action in 2007, Pathan is a totally different bowler to the ODI wicket taker and Test loser (except Zim and Bang) that he was early in his career. I disagree, but I see your point. Of course, noting someone as a prospect 'if they improve' can be said about anyone and I do think that Pathan has no hope of becoming a good bowler for 50 over cricket, but we'll see I guess.
phaedrus Posted November 12, 2011 Posted November 12, 2011 good to see him get wickets. hope he keeps working hard and stays on track.
Sid Posted November 12, 2011 Posted November 12, 2011 Since remodelling his action in 2007, Pathan is a totally different bowler to the ODI wicket taker and Test loser (except Zim and Bang) that he was early in his career. Are you saying he is a much better longer format bowler now than he was before? If yes,why would you say that?
msb1991 Posted November 12, 2011 Posted November 12, 2011 Not much better. Just that before, his potential lay in the limited overs format and now it lies in the Test format. His domestic record will help testify to that.
Sid Posted November 12, 2011 Posted November 12, 2011 I disagree on this but as you said earlier we'll see what happens in future.
VRV Singh Posted November 12, 2011 Posted November 12, 2011 The more the merrier in the bowling department. India doesn't have an embarrassment of riches at the moment. To be competitive everywhere, you would need a batch of reliable bowlers - at the moment you are looking at an attack that is raw, inconsistent and beset with fitness issues. Yadav playing Tests is a good positive move, but more is needed. It is too early to say in the case of IP, his ambitions would be a long way away, but more options are always welcome.
pensionplan Posted November 12, 2011 Posted November 12, 2011 pathan is like a modern day kambli  ppl just cant stop following him in the hope that maybe he has improved or maybe he will improve .Irfan 'Chuvha' Pathan?
deathmonger Posted November 12, 2011 Posted November 12, 2011 pathan is like a modern day kambli  ppl just cant stop following him in the hope that maybe he has improved or maybe he will improve . lol what about your own imran nazir, wahab riaz, mohammad amir, mohammad yousuf etc ?
King Tendulkar Posted November 12, 2011 Posted November 12, 2011 People still hoping for crapthan comeback. These threads are hysteirical and delusional:hysterical:
Sachinism Posted November 12, 2011 Posted November 12, 2011 Heard he's still pretty slow. Can't expect him to increase pace now
Rightarmfast Posted November 13, 2011 Posted November 13, 2011 /\ He was clocking 130 in the first inning and was down to 120 in the 2nd. That was because he was running temperature. Can give him benefit of doubt. If by any miracle he can increase his pace to 135, he will become a real asset .

msb1991 Posted November 13, 2011 Posted November 13, 2011 Disagree. As long as he can string an entire good First Class season together with both ball and bat, he should be in Test contention.
MCcricket Posted November 13, 2011 Posted November 13, 2011 In the Ranji game by far Irfan looked the best batsmen, the way he played, he bowled in good areas, got very good swing, his pace was not up, was between 125 to 130 k, mostly 125 ish.He needs to find better rhythm work on his action, his swing was good though.
rkt.india Posted November 13, 2011 Posted November 13, 2011 Disagree. As long as he can string an entire good First Class season together with both ball and bat' date=' he should be in Test contention.[/quote'] How many good FC season he can string, he will never be good at test level. A guy who does not even have correct bowling technique, you expect him to be successful at test level after being dropped once because of failure and he is till repeating those mistakes. To be successful, he will need consistency at that pace and his technique won't allow him to be consistent. He can take wickets at FC level with inconsistent with some good deliveries in between but not at test level. We should not be delusional with his success at FC level. He has FC success eve after he was dropped. For me, poor Indian FC cricket is not a good enough criteria to select players. I usually want to select players based on potential.

So u think it is the grip, sometimes when u play alot, either u figure out what works for u, or bowling many overs ur action gets optimized also.
