You are right , there are lot of batsmen better than Jadeja at no.7 , similarly there are 2-3 spinners better than Jadeja for the 2nd spinner spot, but is there anyone who could do both? He provides the balance which no one else can(exc maybe Irfan Pathan on form). If he is good enough to be the highest wicket taker in Ranji and he is good enough to score a 300 and average more than Yuvi and Raina, I think he is good enough for a spot in the playing XI

I agree,his batting has developed noticabley.I still dont know if can really perform overseas but i think these are encouraginf signs.I dont want him to turn into a batsman though,he should continue bowling as a strike bowler.

Agreed. I'd rather see him develop his bowling (he has improved but still a long way to go to become Test quality) with his batting a bonus rather than the other way around. But superb innings this, might not be the greatest attack but a triple hundred is a triple hundred.

No doubt he is improving but don't give too much into these performances. Why? Look at scorecard of the Ranji matches, almost every team has some one scoring 150-250. We're playing on roads, his achievement is nothing to be excited about.

I think most of the people including myself still haven't totally gotten over his disasterous first stint with the national team where he was an absolute bits and pieces cricketer. However, he genuinely seems to have improved a whole lot with both bat and bowl to go along with his world class fielding abilities. As of now, I would consider him to be the leader of our all rounders pack (which doesn't really mean much since we do not play an allrounder in our test side). So there's no question of playing him in tests. His only outside chance of playing test cricket is for a game in India where lt col dhoni decides to go in with 3 seamers and jaddu as the specialist spinner and those are extremely small odds.

Raina is a specialist batsman - he was dropped for his batting failures and will only return to the side if he scores runs in FC cricket, regardless of his bowling which is strictly part time.

You have to respect the lad!! He had a disastrous time some time back. He shared large part of the blame (rightly) for poor performance in two World T20 (2009 and 2010). Got banned from one full season of IPL and also did not have great run in ODI's. From there he seems to have come back stronger since this year's IPL. He has worked on his fitness. He has more shots and power now. He has always been a consistent ODI bowler. and showing some good signs in Ranji. How he will do at the top level remains to be seen but he has shown good fight and ability to learn and improve. And the Guy is still not 23. Wishing him all the best. I agree he has to be a pick either as a bowler or batsman and I dont think he is still that good a bowler. Question then is is he better or comparable to Kohli/Pujara/Raina/Yuvraj. Again probably not. so he has to wait for some time and keep performing in ODI's - he needs to keep doing well in WI ODI's

But our four man attack has struggled to take 20 wkts ever since Kumble retired.We couldnt even take 20 wkts against Nzl in all 3 tests in these flat pitches.What chance we will have against strong teams like England and Aus particularly if Zaheer is imjured. When our 4 man attack is not good enough to win tests surely going with 5 bowlers is the best option? Why does almost every seem fixated on 4 bowlers and 6 batsmen.Surely winning tests is better than drawing them?

He now has a better first class batting average (47) than Dada (44), Yuvraj (44), Kaif (41) and Raina (42) He now has something which neither Sachin, Dravid, Dada or Gambhir have, a first class 300 :P

Also , to draw a comparison with a left arm spin all rounder, Ravi Shastri ended with a batting average of 44 and a bowlng average of 33. Jadeja's battng avg is 47 and bowling avg 29!!

Good on the triple century, congrats. But it takes a lot more (or it should take a lot more) to earn a Test cap. As far as piling on scores in domestics, even Raman Lamba and WV Raman did so, but International Test matches are a different beast as they found out. For now, RJ needs to continue to improve his batting/bowling skills and technique.

I have been saying for the past couple of weeks that Jadeja is better suited for Test cricket because he can stay at the crease for long time. In ODIs, depending on the situation, he will either stay at the crease for a long time to get us to a decent score OR slog in the last couple of overs to get some more valuable runs. :hatsoff: to jadeja for his triple ton
