I've just taken the averages from the 1st test vs Australia and not excluded the tests (like Durban or Nagpur). He still averages around 55 and leads the pack. The collapses have started after he got out in some of the cases - like when he got out for 214 in Bangalore, 146 in CT or even the 98 in Mohali. His only real failure was in England. Gambhir's average is poor (around 30) and he hasn't been in good form but he averaged 60 in SA and scored a couple of 50s vs NZ and WI (not great opposition but still....)

I would've loved to have maharathis doing well in recent overseas tours. This tour is not finished yet. We will bounce back with a new tean in few years time. Thanks to the Maharathis for the pleasure they gave for 15-20 years. On top of that we have the WC2011 too. Could'nt have asked for more. Haterz gonna hate.. Our time will come, again..

The worst thing is the struggle of Sehwag and GG which means we may have to not just look for the middle order bats but also for regular openers. Thankfully we play in Asia for the next 2 years after this, so with spin friendly tracks, we could still win at home.

Cricekt fans like me want to be Honesh about our wins,,,,cant we win in india on pace friendly wickets.....will the selectors and BCCI open their mind and look for fast bowlers and batsmean who can face fast bowling ..will they train batsman to face fast bowling ......even Sachin is finding the going tough...we cant blame the other batsman..its the system which is failing not the batsman pls understand this......kohli is undobtadely INDIA's best Batting TAlent and even he is failing against genuine PACE............. i went to cross maidan and we got a complete green track and one fast bowler got 8 of our wickets and i was the highest scorer ..i scored 21.....we had never faced that kind of fast bowling on a GREEN track so it was a total new experience, i feel india is facing exactly that out there. We prepared good wickets for WI series which are natural to our conditions.Did u see Aus preparing turning wickets when we are struggling? Last time we went to Eng in 2007 we prepared by playing in Bangladesh.Yet our batsmen didnt struggle in their conditions.We arent struggling because we dont play in green wickets.We are struggling because our great batsmen has been in decline for more a year and we have failed to replace them. Why cant we just accept this fact rather than blaming everything else? Its daft to say we should prepare green wickets in international matches in India so that so dont struggle away matches.Mention a single country that has prepared wickets at home that doesnt suit their team?
Ultimate_Game Posted January 3, 2012 Posted January 3, 2012 Lack of planning is coming back to haunt us. We have over the hill batsmen with no replacements in sight. The selectors had opportunity to blood youngsters last few years in series against WI etc. but chose not to. They chose to take the easier path and let someone else (i.e. the next selection committee) do the dirty job. Far sightedness and planning has never been our forte. It has been a miracle we had such good last few years where everything fell into place by accident, not design, and we had a decent run. Now we are back to square one.

Was just thinking that even when we are batting well we still lose at least one wkt in a session - lost Sehwag yesterday after lunch, Dravid after tea yesterday and Gambhir today morning. When was the last time we actually batted throughout a session without losing a wkt which is surely a pre-requisite for putting up a big score. In the old days (year or so ago) we used to do it so often we hardly noticed it but since the world cup, especially on away tours, I don't recall even a single instance when we managed to bat through a session without losing a wkt. Surely we don't deserve to win if we can't fulfill such a basic requirement of Test cricket.

I just want to see batsmen put a higher price on their wkts and at least play out a session or two without losing wkts. I wish our batsmen put as much price on their wkts as Ashwin does.

One year and nearly 12 tests is not a slump, it's incompetence. After that WC win, we just don't have that mental toughness anymore. I think the same thing... it's as if the players are sated after the WC and think they have achieved everything there was to achieve. If that's the case the players should simply retire or play IPL. Let players and youngsters who are hungry get their shot.
Sehwag1830 Posted April 8, 2012 Posted April 8, 2012 How bad has Indian batting become ? I know the pitch condition in WI and OZ are different . But Adelaide and Sydney are generally flat. It is embarassing to see the difference in performance of WI and Indian batsmen. Why have we become so bad ?
