Sanga, the legend keeper batsman, made Dilshan keep wickets when Prasanna Jayawardene was injured last year! Mccullum the top keeper gave up keeping. Not too long ago , Prior had scores of 18, 4, 4, 0, 60, 76, 4, 4, 0, 0*, 7, 62, DNB, 16 And none of them led their team to no 1 test rank either. Forget that, none of them led their teams even in 10 tests (as keeper batsmen)!

Actually, after the disastarous England tour, the selectors were contemplating different captains in Tests and LOIs. Dhoni managed to retain his test position by a very narrow margin. This might be his last chance in tests

Gilchrist = Legend Sangakkara = Legend McCullum = Top keeper, and does a handy job with the bat Boucher = Ditto Prior = Superb at his role in the side Dhoni = A useless hack who can strive to beat Kamran Akmal's record in test cricket. His scores this year in the format: 0, DNB, 0, 16, 2, 5, 74, DNB, 28, 16, 5, 0, 77, 74*, 17, 3, 0, 0. Surely there are other keepers in this country of a billion?

To answer your question; yes, there are other keepers in this country of a billion. The answer to that question does not depend on the batting figures you've posted above. You might as well have posted your scores when you played Tetris for the last 10 times, and my answer would still be the same. :P Judging a cricketer by mere statistics is a logical mala praxis that I've seen all too often on these forums. That's one of the major reasons I stay away from Cricket Talk. This is not a boardroom meet where you are discussing budgets for the coming year. You are trying to encapsulate the impact of a cricketer using mere numbers. I assume your grouse against Dhoni is only limited to Test Matches. For we all agree that Dhoni is arguably our best ODI player ever. Dhoni brings so much more to the team than the runs he scores. Where have you captured those intangibles that Dhoni provides the Indian team with? Those numbers you've stated there do not tell us that Dhoni led us to #1 in Tests for the first time in our history. They (the numbers) do not tell us of the immeasurable runs that his smart captaincy and field placing have saved us. They do not tell us of the wickets we've picked up due to his field. They do not tell us of the increased confidence of guys like Ishant and Sreesanth, whom other captains may not have persisted with. They do not tell us of the psychological impact he has on the opposition when they realize that they have to play against a team lead by Dhoni, so no matter how dire the situation, the opposing captain is not going to panic. A computer printout of his scores is not going to tell you all this. So he's had a bad run. Everyone does. He's a captain and a leader before he is a Test batsman. What are our alternatives? Parthiv Patel? Rayudu? These guys measure up to a Dhoni you think? In many ways, MSD stands for the values that the India of today holds in high esteem: he has the victor's elan, he is brash but considerate, arrogant but forgiving & most of all, he can take setbacks in his stride and carry on doing his best. He is already a cricketing legend if you ask me.
