"May I speak with Mr. xyz Good morning/evening (usually the call comes at a bad time when you are having dinner, watching a movie or on weekend) I am calling on behalf of or from xyz .... How are you, sir? We have good rates for calls to India only xx cents per minute blah blah blah" My standard response: Thanks but I am not interested. Please take me off your calling list

He did not waste your time' date=' you called him right? Unless you get paid by the no person of persons you sell to (as opposed to hourly).[/quote'] Of course he wasted his time. He works there not just to draw salary but to put his best efforts to be productive for them. If the prospect had not taken all that time, he could have better utilized that time in something more productive.

Same here. @ OP. An eye for an eye, makes the world blind. You wasted 5 more mins of yours unnecessarily.

Customers like this I have total respect for the moment someone tells me they are not interested I do not bother them further! I show them respect! To be honest that is all I ask for in return they may not want to buy the product and go but at least show me some respect and do not waste my time or abuse me I don't think anyone deserves that.

I give telemarketers my friends' phone numbers with the "insider information" that they are very rich but require a lot of persuasion and repeated calls to be convinced to buy the product or take the insurance policy.
We work off an auto dial system and do not actually dial out anyone it randomly gets selected from the database that we have!

I understand that the stuff you do is challenging as you have to go through a lot of rejection before finding someone who wants to listen to you .... Also spending hours on the phone can be mentally taxing

99% of the folks you call would agree that you/your employer ARE wasting their time and NOT respecting their private time. The so called selected database, companies use all sorts of methods to get these numbers, legal loopholes & various direct/indirect illegal means.

Seeing as I am on a retention campaign, we are speaking to existing customers so we are not actually cold calling anyone at all, once we explain that to people they generally are pretty polite either way. If it was 99% of the people felt we were wasting their time then we would never make sales, but seeing as we do pretty much hit our targets that is not the case! It is for each customer to decide if they want to speak to us and if they do then we are clearly not wasting their time! If they do not want to speak to us then I for one totally respect that and make a not on the system not for them to be called again! I respect some people dont want to speak to us they have a right to say that, but they have no right to abuse anyone!

My response depends on the mood. Some of my moody responses: to some credit card salesman "I don't want card, but let me know if you want card". to personal loan guy - "yes I need it, I want it by evening but no later" some times I wont say a word, and just let the person speak until s/he figures out no one is listening on the other side. But, normally I would just say, "no thanks" and cut it off.
