1983-2011 Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) will present Sachin Tendulkar with 100 gold coins if the master batsman reaches his 100th international century in the second Test against West Indies which started on Monday at the Eden Gardens. CAB's Working Committee had originally planned to gift Tendulkar a golden bat. However, they felt that it was a risky proposition to order a golden bat. "If he (Tendulkar) doesn't get a hundred then we wouldn't have an answer as to why we spent so much money on a golden bat. That's why we decided against it", a CAB official said. One of the hundred coins, minted by renowned Kolkata-based PC Chandra Jewellers, has already been embedded with an emblem that reads 'Congrats Sachin Tendulkar'. "We will be putting the emblem on the remaining 99 coins if he gets the hundred. Only after that will we present the coins to him," said the official. Meanwhile, CAB distributed 100 t-shirts to underprivileged children ahead of the Test. These kids will wear the attire which says, "Let's Pray For The Century of Centuries at Eden" below Tendulkar's picture, sources said. Tendulkar visited the famous Kali temple in South Kolkata's Kalighat to seek divine blessing on Sunday. However, he had to return disappointed, as a large number of fans surrounded his car. The security personnel panicked and drove him to the team hotel. The news of Tendulkar's arrival spread like wildfire and a large number of cricket buffs gathered near the temple. Dhoni_fan Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 I wish we would stop all this, Sachin will get his 100th 100 at some stage it is not if but when but the more we fixate and focus on it it becomes a distraction. When he does it it will be a historic moment but ultimately we are here to win Test Matches! the constant distraction is not good for the team and it only puts more pressure on Sachin.

He just needs to forget about it and play his natural game. I am sure he will get it. At the moment, his mind is cluttered with all kinds of things

Everyone needs to forget about it for now. Let him get it without any pressure and then celebrate. I wonder what happened to the Pepsi deal LOL. Those guys must be really pissed that they have all the brands/ads ready to be launched but cannot.....

Only when the article mentioned about the T-Shirts that I realized it's not a joke, as I've seen those kids on TV wearing the T-shirts on the opening day of the test match.

zen Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 If they want to present gold, why not one gold coin with the right stuff mentioned on it I am not sure what the weight of the coin is, usually it is 1 ounce or quarter of an ounce 1 ounce = approx US$1800 = US$180,000 = INR 90,000,000 (@50) 1/4th ounce = US$450 = US$45,000 = INR 2, 250,000 (@50) surely, this amt can be put to better use
