Sami bowls at same speed if not quicker. Nazir Sehwag comparison was based on ability to score quickly. Its a different thing one has gone on to become a legend whilst other has tried to become Afridi.

To be fair to the OP ...he didn't compare them as bowlers but still To the OP Umesh has a grand total of 3 wickets in 1.5 test....He was used sparingly in his first test and just started bowling in the 2nd test....so on what basis did you form ths amazing judgement???? I have hardly seen him bowl or get wickets with outswingers so far in his ODI and Test performances.As far as I can remember he got his wkts with straight,fast and full deliveries.

He has the pace(145ks without any effort can get upto 150),smooth run-up & action & now we saw the awaygoing movement.He can also cut it back into the pads & reverses the the ball both ways.He can improve on his groupings though & can be more consistent on hitting the right length.With more experience he can be a fantastic FAST bowler.I'm not comparing him with Steyn though at this early stage.He has to go a long way but there is serious potentials in him.

I have seen both Umesh and Varun move the ball, also they both bowl fuller as they are not too tall, seem to be disciplined and quick learners, very good investment.

UY bowls a bit short more often. Needs to be fuller. Hopefully our bowling coaches work on it without reducing his pace.

The comparison with Steyn is ridiculous. Steyn is the greatest fast bowler of this generation and Umesh is just starting out. He looks to have potential. I hope he doesn't drop his pace like the rest.

Keep bowling coaches away man!! From the evidence of what has happened to our bowlers, they only seem to be doing harm.
