Another series defeat in Australia is the most likely result. Even though Aus may field a poor team against us , they will still be better than India as usual. We can't expect Ishant Sharma, Umesh Yadav and Varun Aaron to trouble the Aus batsmen. Ishant was pathetic in England with an Avg of 58 and a Stike Rate of 94 in friendly conditions. If Zak and Ashwin deliver we can prevent another 4-0 humiliation.

Laxman has been team India's 2ns highest scorer in Tests this year even though he has not had an outstanding year with the bat. I do not think he will be dropped anytime soon (unless he goes through a very bad patch for a long time). Also, the reality is that we simply do not have any batsmen ready at the moment. People like Yuvraj, Raina have been struggling even to get a permanent place at #6, Kohli is yet to cement his place and Pujara is still injured.

It all depends on weather,You could easily tell cold and gloomy weather conditon in england was getting to guys like laxman and others ,They would have sun on their back in australia and would enjoy the true bounce and pace of aussie tracks rather than sticky english wikcets.

Our batsmen should do better than in Eng. Aus has flat pitches and is good for batting in the first innings. Looks like Dravid's last series.

I see this as another of Steve Waugh's mental game. The war of words have begun. The great Aussie tradition. However, with this comment, he is taking on 2 opponents. India and England . He obviously wants India to reciprocate and , he is just trying to show where England stands in his books. He categorically mentions that as per him, the 2 best sides were Aus and India and nothing has changed even now. He also emphasizes that Ind vs Aus is a tad better than Ashes. He is just dismissing England and their claim at being No1 !!! Nicely done Mr Waugh and I quite like it ! Win,lose or draw, one things is sure that this series will be a cracker. After the England debacle, I am willing to believe that Indians will give it their all in Aus. And Aus, we all know are fighters to the core. Something the English team ( in my books atleast ) can only dream of !

Yeah all of them are past their prime!!! Dravid - highest number of runs in Test this year ; VVS - over 750 runs this year (is the 6th highest scorer of the year till now despite having a rather mediocre year) ; Goddy - hasn't been at his very best since the WC ended but has still made around 500 runs and it was only last year that he scored over 1500 runs with 7 centuries........and then you have the audacity to say they are past their prime.

Yes I have audacity to say this...because we will endup as another Windies of 80s. I care about team India not the careers of big 3. Also I want not all 3 to leave at once instead use two new players and 2 out of big 3.Even Australia with much better bowling backup struggled after Shane & McGrath retired...this Indian side will hit rock bottom if we don't infuse youngsters who can gain confidence in playing Test matches ...or else we are doomed( get ready for more Rainas ). Anybody remember English side of '94 that went to Aus with Graham Gooch,Mike Gatting (still in good form) and the state of English side post their retirement for rest of 90s.

India will have to start off well and can't afford to take it easy in the 1st Test. If India does well in the 1st Test (i.e., not lose) they won't lose the series. But I have to agree with Waugh's prediction. If I had to predict the series scoreline woul dhave gone for 2-1 Aus myself. Hope India wins the series coz this is our best chance in a long while to beat Aus in Aus, especially with no Bucknor around this time :winky:
