We met a film troupe in the train, they were extras ( the folks in crowds etc ) - very down to earth and they invited us in their chaal type hotel but treated us to lotta food, booze, nilgiri ganja. One of their team lead went on to become a bhojpuri actor This was during my b'lore-mysore-ooty trip So, in one breezy trip you could make out how the city is. Mysore is a college town, very good for education. Jobs, I don't know, recently Infosys and other IT cos have opened training centres. Students can live there cheap, it's not a city, but a big town, low on crime. Not for a young person after college who is out to have fun.

For eg; Mumbai, Delhi, Mexico City, Shanghai, Manila, New York, London maybe are mega cities and are also growing at a fast rate. Housing, spacing, resources/ person etc in these cities cannot really be compared to a Vienna or Stockholm or any such city which hasn't been growing at all for the past few decades and has lesser people than say Chembur or Dadar. Also, think of it this way. Vienna is not *that* much better than any anderekleindeutschedorf that people from all over Germany and Austria migrate there. Of course, many other factors like de-centralization, relative affluence of rural centres etc make a world of a difference, but in the case of Mumbai or Mexico city or Delhi people from all over the country see a hope of a bright future in these cities. It is simply so much better ( in their view) than their home town in terms of eking out a living. The fact that so many people want to go there must feature in the rankings, don't you think so. That's why I think, these comparisons/rankings are odious.

There's a small anecdote that I'll share here. A friend of mine works/stays in Mumbai and her husband is doing some business in Bangalore (temporarily). So she flies there every time she gets 3-4 days off. After one such trip, her husband dropped her off to Bangalore airport. Afternoon time, mind you. And she had a very uneventful flight. Took a cab and reached her home (Walkeshwar). So thats an hour of cab ride in addition too 1.5 hours of flight and 30 odd mins at the airport. She calls up her husband to inform that she had reached home, and he's still in his car, on his way back from the airport. I kid you not. Namma namma indeed.

A Mumbikar complaining about Traffic in Bangalore ? :hysterical: 6km drive from my office to work used to take on avg 90-120 mins for me here in mumbai ..i have moved closer to office , 15mns walk but still a good 20mins by car .

There got to be some financial capital of any country and in this case, it is Mumbai. So it is natural that many people will move to that place to earn some extra money. That doesn't mean, that it will make that place best for living. According to your assumption, even here Chandigarh, we have so many people of so many communities and in fact many are from across the border, Tibet and some Pakistanis here as well. What about Delhi, where people move from all over north, east and central India. Bheed-Bhadaka can never be counted as a factor for the best city. A best city should have enough facilities and at the same time 'shanti' as well
