He scored 7 centuries and 15 half - Centuries with a very good average of 48. Whenever ppl talk about back-up wicket keepers, names that usually prop up are Saha, karthik, Parthiv and even gautam but not Uday Kaul. For me, just looking at the stats, he seem to be an ideal candidate for back-up keeper. He is young with enough domestic experience (48 matches). Did anyone saw him in action? How is his keeping? and how good is his batting technique?

Clear case of cronyism and lobbying here.

saneindian Posted November 30, 2011 Posted November 30, 2011 Posted this an year back. Uday Kaul, the Punjab keeper I believe is one who we should be hearing more about. Unfortunately he hasn't yet been picked even for India A which is extremely surprising given his consisten performances in last 2-3 seasons. 1st class average of nearly 50 and extremely good technique behind the wickets (saw him keep in the ongoing Punjab vs Karnataka match and he was extremely impressive both with the bat and gloves). The little that I remember of him, looked like an extremely efficient keeper and a very accomplished batsman. Unfortunately despite stellar performances yet to play for India A, EPt or any of the Challenger sides. He isn't a slogger and hence isn't a regular in IPL. Maybe that works against him.

Magneto Posted November 30, 2011 Posted November 30, 2011 Saha has just joined CSK this season. Has been KKR's first-choice wicketkeeper for the last 3 seasons. But when have we ever given Saha a run? Never kept in Tests, neither played a T20. Just played a few ODIs. As a keeper, has one of the cleanest techniques - looks much smoother than PP, DK or even Dhoni possibly. We can only judge Saha once we give him any sort of run. He definitely has potential.

Magneto Posted November 30, 2011 Posted November 30, 2011 Simply because Saha's 'keeping' is far better than both Ojha and Karthik. Ojha's batting in the 5-day format is nothing special, and is in no way superior to Saha (His T20batting may look better than Saha, but the three matches Ojha has played for India - 2 T20s and one ODI - he's opened in all the three with scores of 2, 10 and 1). Karthik is just around, but he's been doing pretty much nothing. Scored no important knocks in the Ranji Trophy, and is still an inferior keeper than Saha. Difficult to believe that he'll set the world on fire in Australia with his batting. I would still prefer having a better 'keeper' as the 2nd-choice keeper in a star-studded Indian batting line-up where the other guy in competition is just marginally better as a batsman.

Hopefully jimmy bhai will give him a chance....
