My point was that there will always be deserving players waiting in the ranks for a spot. Selectors cannot pick everyone and make them play at once. With the amount of cricket we play, its more likely that most bowlers wilth good domestic records will get a cap sooner or later. W.r.t Mithun's selection, my guess is that since he already made his debut and played a handful of matches for India, selectors are going with him. A player should be given a decent number of chances before being sent back to domestic cricket to improve.
Honestly speaking, selectors should look at the qulaity, if a sportsmen has it in him to succeed at highest level. When you look at him, i dont see anything charming to be able to succeed at intl cricket. I am sure many would agree with me. NO pace, no swing, no movement of the deck...... can't see how he can get wickets....

I think if a bowler is talented he should not be discriminated on the basis of playing in the plate league. It's not his fault and to be honest when we don't have too many good bowling prospects, it should not be that hard to spot a talent.

Doesn't make much of a difference especially 3 of the 5 bowlers in the national side, Aaron, Umesh and Ojha are from the plate league. And goingg by your logic, the likes of Joginder Sharma, Pankaj Singh, Bhargav Bhatt, Narwal etc should be playing ahead of Mithun.

Most players in the Elite league are trudlers. If only Elite team players are selected then Yadav, Dhoni, Ojha and Aaron would not have been selected. Until Abu Nechim joined the ICL he was considered a sure shot. Till date not a single Indian player who played in the ICL have been considered for India selection. Even if Mithun deserves to be in the Indian team ahead of Nechim, how do you explain the fact that he was not even selected for the Challenger trophy. When it comes to International cricket especially test cricket no team selects trudlers. Forget about the major test playing nations, even Zimbabwe and Bangladesh have bowlers who are faster and better than Mithun.

forget nechim. icl,plate whtever are u telling me there is no bowler in the whole country who is better than mithun? im not willing to believe in this..

Do we have to remind everyone that last year a Plate league team won the ranji trophy by beating all of the so called elite's??? This plate v elite argument is nonsense because the overall standard of indian first class cricket is fairly pathetic. So all we should be looking for is that sparkling talent and then groom him by giving more exposure. Nechim has bowled against world class batters in the mayhem league (ipl) and held his own so i'd say this guy is way more talented then ppl with better FC records. Additionally, we haven't watched a lot of his FC matches so we don't know how many edges he produced, catches dropped of his bowling, etc.

You are refuting a straw man here. My point wasnt that Mithun is a better bowler by virtue of his playing in the elite league, rather that Mithun stats are marginally better than Nechim considering the fact that he plays in a division with traditionally stronger teams. It was in response to a post above me. There will be always be players who are deserving of a cap waiting in the wings. But that doesn't mean the team should become a see saw of players coming for a series then disappearing after that. If a player is given a cap, selectors should stick with him for atleast 10 -12 tests to let him prove himself. Even if after that he doesn't perform he should be sent back in line and the next rookie given a chance.

Vinay kumar being another one. Honestly Nechim does not have stand out stats. You dont select people for test match cricket based on IPL stats. Personally i think Mithun was only selected for the ODIs to give him some game time before the Aus tour. Also Nechim seems to be just too short. He does not even have a funcky action like Malinga.

Trust me i am a veteran of TMS, i can handle it..... but honestly guys. Nechim is still young and who knows he maybe given a call soon is he has 2-3 stellar seasons. But i did read the autobiography of Fletcher. He prefers tall strong bowlers. For bounce etc. I am pretty sure he is unhappy with what he has been given with Vinay and Mithun as well. Over time no doubt Fletcher will push for tall bowlers who are well built and bowling consistantly more than 85mph. In his autobiography he was particularly critical of the type of player like Craig White/Mark Eelham who he thought was too short to be a fast bowler.

Selections are not about stats, stats are just an indicator, or else we would not need selectors a computer would pick up the team.Selectors need vision , should have the ability to understand and pickup players based on their potential.Ahmed is from Assam so no one is pushing for him,Malinga to me is the best ODI, T20 bowler in the world, slingy bowling action, pace, swing, yorkers.Ahmed was very succcessfull in CLT20, CAN BOWL YORKERS, HAS PACE, IS SLINGY, CONNECT THE DOTS,RIGHT NOW WHO IS MOST ILL EQUIPPED FOR ODI'S , mITHUN AND GUESS WHO IS SELECTED.Ahmed can be successfull in ODI'S, IF SELECTORS ARE SMART,he is also picking up fifers,same for Gony he is best suited for test over other fringe bowlers guess he is not even in the frame, very poor thought process.

He is from assam, and assam has lot of bangladesh immigrants, is he a bangladeshi immigrant? All the assamise, manipuris, arunachal pradesh people look like chinese. But this guys looks indian or bangladeshi. Can anyone check this?
