n I want the Ishants n Sreesanth to think that only pace is not good enuff.they need to get wickets n be consistent. why do I need to imagine that?we already have Ishant n Sreesanths who have not had great careers so far.Ideally we'd all like to have someone bowling 150+,in the right areas, swing it both ways.but isnt that too much to ask given our flat decks?what do we do?have speedsters who dont bother a batsmen except 1-2 spells every 2-3 yrs or some one bowling slower but being consistent n taking wickets?I'll prefer the latter
First, it is a misconception that Ishant and Sree are all abt pace 2nd, who are the latter that you prefer? Irfan Pathan gone because he lost his pace? A PK who even at his best couldn't do much than look decent in Eng and might never look even decent again? An RP Singh who could do lot more struggling because of lack of pace .... All the guys who have won tests for Ind against quality sides have bowled quickish and at least they have won a few games to help Ind get to #1 :winky: Now the need is to make more such bowlers who want to bowl fast and be effective so we have a pool. And once we have a pool hopefully we will get a few bowlers of ATG quality :--D

Sreesanth is not fast. Not by any means. The guy was trundling around 125kph for most of his spells in England with about 20ish deliveries where he clocked more than 135kph.

So we know why he didn't do well in Eng

n why have these faded away?they got injured(or fat in RP's case),lost pace n had nothing to fall back upon.with RP or Irfan they lost swing too.they r not used to bowling in right areas.(btw RP also won us test in helping conditions like Aus-Eng n Pathan too except against minnows,so whats the difference) I dont know who wil be next bowler for us.but we need who has swing,is accurate. enough, can reverse.if he has speed too then gr8,but it is secondary not primary.

There can be reasons to why they faded but they had more things than just pace .... if you think these guys had nothing else than almost no other current bowler has much. makes your points moot yeah, let wait for another McGrath :--D ..... And you cannot classify speed in one category, and everything else in other as what's needed is a combination of elements to make a good bowler and speed is one of them :winky: .... With speed you can reverse, bounce the batsman out so a lot of avenues open up for you as a bowler

thats why i am saying too, these had more than just pace which made them successful.pace alone is useless(saying it again).they lost swing n pace which made them useless.if they had pace but lost swing,I'm pretty sure they'd been crap still.OTOH,if they only lost pace n not swing they would've still decent.

yeh they do,but all those are waste if u dont bowl in right areas.or u think we can have guys like Steyn who can bowl in right areas at 150+.Steyn is as much an exception as McGrath.speed is one of the tools i agree, but not primary tool.n one can reverse the ball at 130ish too like Zak does n if he is tall enough,he'll get bounce

first of all Zak isn't classified as a trundler .... he has slowed down becoz of age. He was pretty quick when he started out and has the ability to bowl a few quick ones second, you are assuming that Zak would be effective bowling bouncers and reversing at 130 kmph (when he has the ability to bowl quick ones to bowl those balls) thrid, based on the above two, you are assuming that trundlers can do that too and become effective similarly fouth, you need to give examples of Ind bowlers (apart from Zak) who can effectively bounce batsman out and reverse effectively @ 130 kmph or less In the absence of any of these, you are failing to make a case

Pace is a heck of a tool. There is an intimidation factor that goes with it. Would love to see a Yadav make the Australians hop, bob and weave- flailing their bats- with the wicketkeeper and a boat load of slips waiting in anticipation. Now, that would be a beautiful picture. Then once we soften em up with the pacers- sure, the fellows with guile ie swing and spin can come in and clean up. Unfortunately, I have only seen that picture with the Indians at the receiving end of this. Its time we build things so that we bring about the picture I describe. I want it all. Quickies, the guile, all star fielding, and yes- of course we must continue to produce magicians with the bat. Not being greedy. Just saying, its about time..

ok let me break it for u guys yes pace isnt everything but still bowling in 120's is no excuse even zack when fit bowls in higher 130's reverse is much more effective when bowl is quick we all know that lol and giving example of mcgrath ..well there was one mcgrath who is gr8 at those speeds but all of the other bowlers are quick genuine fast bowlers (not express) who can bowl in 140s easily akram, waqar, lillie, west indies quicks.. donald , so from looks of it probability of finding gr8 bowler at mcgrath pace is less then probablity of finding gr8 bowler who bowls quick pace just gives u so much more options.. u can get batsmen on back foot (mcgrath had quick bouncer very deceptive and he when was younger easily bowled in 140's and his height really helped him ) u can get much more batsmen out with reverse swing quicker it is harder it is to play reverse more over no one is asking any one to bowl in 140's just bowl at ur best mcgrath ,pollock (130's in later part of careers) said they tried to get as much pace as they can physically achieve .. of rp singh can bowl at 138 he should bowl at 138 why bowl in 120's? same with pathan

but does get wickets even wen he isnt bowling that fast

here Zak reversing at 126-132(watch from around 20 secs) 6WynG1u47tI

why do i need to give examples of anybody except Zak?point is it can be done.why shouldnt someone get inspired by that? n bouncing out doesnt count as 2 wickets.'m equally happy if bowler gets lbw or bowled.i want wickets, however they come. gonna get some sleep now.gotta get up early for test.will catch up later

So if Donald gets a wks or two bowling slowely, it means he is a trundler and shows you don't need to bowl fast? :hmmmm: Is this a joke? How is that reverse swing? The ball came back after hitting the deck .... Because Zak may not be express but he is not classified as a trundler

u r deliberately missing the point arent u?u wanted evidence that Zak can be effective with reverse swing at 130 n now ignoring it,how ridiculous.n that is reverse swing.its the old ball.look where the seam is pointing n where the ball goes where have I said Zak is a trundler?dont put words in my mouth.my defintion of trundler is a bit different.those who swing the ball n have decent accuracy, though may not be express r not trundlers.Mithun is a trundler.PK isnt. I havent said u dont need to bowl quick.just that its not everything.getting wickets at good average is.speed(especially under 150) without movement n accuracy is useless.

You Forget Zaheer khan clocked his quickest ball in years in the last day of nagpur test 2008 in the same series-146km/h and he was unplayable. He has always been quicker with old ball and he is at his ebst at 135-140km/h .

I beg to differ on your definition of a trundler. I think a trundler is a pacer who does not have the ability to generate either pace in the air or off the pitch consistently. Additionally he does not hit the deck hard and get bounce consistently either. So a trundler is a medium pacer ( not fast or fast-medium ) who does not get steep bounce and floats the ball at medium ppace instead of hitting the deck hard consistently.

it isnt about Zaheer, nor I have called him trundler or anything.its about whether one can take test wickets at 130ish pace. i say yes if has other tools like swing, accuracy, reverse etc
