Though I haven't watched any of the live action, I still refuse to believe that our batting line up is not capable of even the odd good performance. If the bowlers can do the job of restricting the Australian lead to around 100, I still believe that there is enough ability in this line up to set them a target of 250 or so, which is never easy at Sydney because despite the grass covering the ball does turn from day 4 onwards. There is definitely going to be a result in the match and I hope we see a flash of brilliance from someone's bat to make sure it's in our favor.

I saw all three innings and it is quite appalling how the famed batting line up has gone about their batting. They seem to be repeating the same mistakes again and again. We have our own Philip Hughes in Gambhir and he just keeps giving catching practice to the slips, Dravid is being a sucker to the one coming in from Pattinson and Siddle while Laxman has just forgot how to score runs. Sehwag well he is a lottery in these conditions so dont expect much from him anyway. To comeback one would have to see some signs of form or quality from the top order and Sachin is the only one who has shown us that, it would take a herculean effort to come back in this test match and i dont think it would happen. As Pattinson said their bowlers have just intimidated us so much that our batsmen are expecting a jaffer every second ball to get out.

But with Zaheer bowling superbly and perhaps still not at his best, I don't expect Australia to pile up huge totals in the series like 450+. Also we now have Ashwin and Yadav who appear to be much better than the players they replaced. Zaheer is the key figure in the team despite the big names of Sehwag, Dravid, Tendulkar, and Laxman and I am sure he will keep giving opportunities for the batting line up to stamp their authority and they just might! Or maybe I am just being a wishful fan watching the last nail in the coffin of the great Indian batting line up like people in the late 70s watched the death of the Indian spin quartet. :((

Australian batting isn't that great at this time. Though clarke or ponting, one of the two are capable of playing big knocks with hussey and haddin still to come to add to our pain. Though I have a feeling, the current australian middle order might fall for next 50-100 run perhaps, but the real test for our bowlers are to get those last 4 wickets from 7-10. We end up giving out about 100-115 runs which we can't afford here. Siddle, Lyon need to be bombarded with some bouncers the way Hilfenhaus welcomed our own Zak and Ishant. That is how you bowl to tailenders and Siddle is no Vettori yet to be scoring 30s every inning.

I agree with tics that this Aussie batting line up isn't great and could collapse at any point. The problem is that we don't have enough on the board. A total of even 270-280 would have kept us in the game.
