Time to replace Sehwag as Opener

Time to replace Sehwag as Opener

  1. 1.

    • He needs to be considered as ODI style of player so drop him from test side
    • Coach should help sehwag to change his style of batting in test cricket
    • play his natural game , we still hav the depth in batting if sehwag goes early

He ave 22.78 in our last four away tours from subcontinent since his century in Adelaide 2008. Since then he has utterly failed us as an opener in all our tough away tours.Yes he is still very good in sub continental conditions but being excellent in Indian conditions is not great for an opener in my view.Even Jaffer and Vijay managed that to a certain extent. The primary quality for our openers should be to survive in these away series (In SA ENG AUS and NZL) where our middle order needs to be protected. His scores in our last four away tours from sub continent in England new zealand South Africa and this current this in Australia has been dismal. He didnt play in West Indies but considering the conditions we encountered there dont think he would have fared much better there.

24 - DNB - 34 - 22 - 48 - 12 - 0 - 63 - 25 - 32 - 13 - 11 - 0 - 0 - 8 - 33 - 67 - 7 - 30 - 4

Now when we rebuild our team after this Aus series we should rebuild focusing on trying to win these series away from sub continent starting in SA and NZL 2014.For that we need a competant opening partnership with good technique which Sehwag doesn't have.Either Rahane or Mukund should be blooded as openers as they have good technique against moving ball. Now i am not saying he should be dropped from the team completely as he is too good a batsman to be kept away from the team and still has 4-5 good years in him.But he should drop down to no.4 and guide our youngsters after this series or at best after the England series year end depending on when Sachin retires. When he comes in at no.4 when there wont be much aid for fast bowlers he can still be at his destructive best like he did in his debut knock in Blomfentain (sp?) We need to give the new opening combination atleast 2 years before going for these tough away series in 2014.Hopefully Gambhir can come good so that we dont need to replace both the openers which will be much harder.

Sehwag is relaxing now, since he made a 50 in first match. I dont expect more than this from him in remaining matches of this series. The main problem with Sehwag is lack of motivation and being lazy and complacent. He needs to be dropped to revitalize him.

Sehwag is FTB. Can't expect anything!!!!
Shewag has done well previously in australia but nowadays he is batting as if he does not care, When he was making his comeback in australia and earlier he used take some time getting in and then play strokes but now he is playing shot a ball in 2008 in adelaide test he batted to save a test,He should just look at his application in that innings if he just applied himself he would be even more dangereous

If Dravid/Lax retire after this series I hope to see him play in middle order. He's still playing well but playing with new ball he'll fail more often than not but with ball old he can be very devastating and he is a very good player of spin.

agree.he should be more responsible.its the not matter of technique or ability,he still has that, but just doesnt have the applicatiion n attitude to survive

His attitude is the reason we're at least winning tests at home instead of drawing. If it wasn't for his quick-fire innings at top India would still be drawing series at home. Look at his average and S/R at home for last 3-4 years. His technique is limited but thats just how he plays. Averaging 50+ isn't something that can be got easily.

yeah why not,he can get away with it on pattas.but not on these tracks.n it isnt like others cant do it,they just value thier wicket more.his technique is not he issue, its pretty good.thats how he plays argument doesnt cut it always,he gotta respect the situation n now play like he doesnt care

More than the number of runs scored, the way he has been getting out is disappointing. He looks to be in too much of a hurry and throws his bat at everything. On Asian wickets, that will work not on wickets with even slightest of movement. When he returned back for the last Aus tour in 2008, he used to very watchful early on, leave a lot of deliveries and made a conscious attempt to stay at the wicket. Post that tour however, it has been all downhill, the same mistakes being repeated over and over again.

Move this to jokes section please.
Why indeed? It makes perfect sense, not least because Rahane, one of our better young bats, and Mukund who showed promise in Eng can both open. Sehwag is getting old and the reflexes are not the same, I have been saying for months that he should bat at 5. He take a few matches to adjust but it will be better for him in the long run. GG, Mukund, Rahane, SRT, Sehwag, Rohit

yeah,he has the technique to score on any track, but wafting at deliveries foot outside off en we need to draw or wen we need 292 to win?thats not acceptable.he gotta be more responsible about it,play for the team, not for the crowds

Yeah, Mukund would do no worse than Sehwag opening away from Asia and Sehwag would be better off against an older ball because he just can't alter his game for seaming/swinging conditions (not necessarily criticizing, that's just what he is and at 33 he isn't going to change). Definitely worth pursuing. In any case Sehwag has said he prefers batting in the middle order.
