Why separate yardstick for Tendulkar

He scored a match-winning 76 in the first Test and scored a 94 in the 3rd Test that contributed in saving the follow-on. And all the three going together is ridiculously shortsighted.
No it isn't.Just rewind back to 1996 dravid, ganguly, laxman all debuted in the same year and you can see how successful it was.

I have already said this in another thread. Sehwag is never great against new ball but still one of our finest players and has atleast 5 years test cricket in him.We have to remember than he is originally a middle order batsman who was pushed to open due to no slot available in middle order. And as a middle order batsmen his lack of footwork wont be exposed against new ball.So by protecting him against new ball he will still be devastatingly effective even n overseas conditions.Thats why Sehwag should drop down to no.4 position rather than being dropped.
He has got all his success playing as an opener only. And he's played some 90 Tests with the same conditions. When was the last time he played in the middle order? You may want to save him by putting him in the middle order, but it's just a face-saving stop gap measure. The truth is, he's possibly past his prime. He'll still play one of those blistering innings once in a while, and be non-productive most of the time unless he makes a REAL comeback. And it has to happen as an opener only.

Can you tell me the last time either of them pulled out of test cricket to perform tamasha for their franchise owners?
Come on, you know better than its a simple matter of pulling out.

TENDULKAR IS PREDOMINANTLY AFFECTED BY THE 100TH 100, IT IS A SHAME AND THIS IS GOING ON FOR QUITE A LONG TIME, SEE HIM SLOW DOWN WHEN CLOSE TO 50 AND IN 70 'S.He is playing well but the monkey on his back he cannot get rid of, perfectly quoted by Ian.

Firstly i respect the contributions made by the big 3 and revere them for all the Joy that they have given us over the lat decade. Before i start let me confess that i am a bigger dravid fan. Now coming to the point. We have come to realization that VVS laxman's time is up and his single digit scores this test made matters worse.. Now everyone has started to harp on Dravid's retirement because he is getting bowled too often which is not his wont and is indication of a weakness.. fair enough point. But why is the same yardstick that is used for dravid or Laxman not used on sachin. He is looking good , fair enough, but he is also finding unique ways to get out. doesn't that indicate weakness rather weakness'es because there are multiple ways to get him out as compared to dravid to whom you just would need to bowl extremely full with full speed. We can give seniors leeway for 3-4 tests at a tro. but 14 innings is no Joke. If someone says Dravid has to retire i would say , so does sachin too.. compare stats of last 10 tests( 4 england, 3 WI , 3 australia) Sachin 740 runs 0 100s 6 50s avg 38.9 Dravid 948 runs 4 100s 3 50s avg 55.76 In this series sachin has scored 249 while dravid 168.. Now would you ask someone who averages 17 runs more per innings to retire just because another one has to hit 100 tons ?? what is the purpose of scahin playing ODIs... i seriously had respect for him.. but playing ODIs.. if this is not for records what else is.. if it is for the love of the game.. then play Ranji... we need to build the team for the next WC... and by having sachin play ODIs we are seriously robbing the chance of one of our WC 2015 ODI player to get a year of experience.. If by form seniors have to retire its gotta be laxman .. sachin ... dravid... If its by age.. still it would be laxman..sachin..dravid..B->B-> i honestly dont see the purpose of sachin playing ODIs.. if it were tests , then i would see him play a max of one series more than dravid just because we dont want the test team to suddenly field just youngsters... But playing ODIs robbing the chance of one deserving youngster .. man you lost my respect... The ultimate aim of ODIs is to build a team for WC according to my books.. if that is not the aim of our board god save us fans..:((:((:((
Good post but all three should go immediately. No point in one after another.
One is a god' date=' others mere mortals[/quote'] Poor taste of sarcasm if it was one. If you're serious than no, he was never one and he can never be one. +1 +1 +1 Good post, +1 +1 He isn't but he is not needed anymore. Good to see at least some common sense prevailing in the forum. Most of the people are in agreement it seems to get rid of all 3.

Sachin should be in the test team, at least for the time being, because he has been performing better than most others in the tests. This is a logical response by you. But it must also be said that these records belie the number of times Sachin has put personal milestones ahead of the team, that is the sad part. I really liked Tendulkar;s battin but his quest for personal records and failing in many crucial matches are somethings I wish he had not done. But the people who are suggesting that Tendulkar should be in the team because he is god, great etc. etc. really should be ashamed. They are putting an individual before their country. :nono:

why do you need a whole brand new lot of Batsmen in the Side? Dravid and Laxman are going sooner which means atleast Number 3 ' date= Number 5 and Number 6 are up for grabs plus the two openers Gambo /Sehwag arent permanent members either considering their performance in England/Australia . So there are atleast 4-5 batting positions up for grabs in the team considering you want to rebuild for series in England, Aus and Sa, thus from hereon if Sachin even plays for a couple of years more considering that he performs the best wouldnt be a bad option.
Because late next year, we will be touring SA and then SRT wont be there for sure till that time and we cannot afford a complete rookie there. We will need those 3-4 batsmen all to have played a few home tests by the time, we tour SA. At least, they will have experience of playing tests and international bowling attacks.

tired of seeing people making so much effort to shield there so called God by past stats... Sachin has to go along with other 2...he is just not good enough anymore...think of future atleast now...

While I agree that all 3 seniors, Sachin included, should be phased out over the next year or so, its stupid to say that Sachin has been batting for personal milestones. It's all just media hype. If Sachin was just in it for himself he would have played the Test series' in West Indies and the ODIs in England, and the ODIs at home against West Indies and England, all to try to rack up centuries. However, thats not the case, it was clear he was readying himself for this big tour. Winning in Australia is something that means so much to him and sadly, in Test cricket, he has never won a series here.

He will play till he feels nobody can threaten his "records' but unfortunately for him cricket is a team game and winning is the only thing that matters and in cricketing terms his record is 248 international losses.

If that were the case, he would have played the ODI series' against England and West Indies too, to rack up centuries. The truth is, a series win in Australia was on his bucket-list. Thats why he decided to leave for Australia early. He wanted to prime himself for this big series but unfortunately he hasn't had the success. The same argument could have been made to Ponting last year when he was getting out to the top-gun England attack. This Australian attack is very very good and have bowled very well to him.

These two series have been terrible for the trio. It has resulted in a situation where they're either booted out of the team or there are loud calls for their ouster. Wished they'd retired when India was still in a high! Now its just a slow painful watch till they are finally put away, hoping that the end would be merciful.

Tendulkar should be the first to go out of the three. At least Dravid and Laxman are committed to playing test matches unlike Tendulkar who prefers IPL. Of course, given the rabid fan following he has this will not happen.
Most retarded post of this thread.

Sachin has still not retired from ODIs. He always plays ODI out-side the sub-continet with top teams. He did that in SA too. Why this sudden question before this particular series? did Sachin say he will never play ODIs? Did Sachin say he has retired from ODIs? Then what gave you reason to believe he will not play ODIs this series? Please answer, I am really confused BTW, since when is last ten tests a yardstick to retire players? Any unbiased person will know that overall Sachin is better than Dravid and Laxman. Why nit-pick about last ten tests?

I want him to retire after England series. We now need to look forward and bring new guys in so that they can play enough tests at home and have some experience of tests before we tour abroad again which is late next year and it will unfair on team or that player as we suddenly see SRT is injured or retired mid next year and we see a complete rookie under pressure going SA without playing any test. VVS and RD should not be picked even if they do not take a retirement call on NZ tour to India in August and SRT should stretch at most till England series.

Proof or shut the fark up. just because media hypes up something doesnt mean Sachin is thinking about it too. I knew worms like you were just hiding under rocks, waiting for him and the team to fail before coming up with such slanderous and libelous accusations Even in this series when people were accusing him of playing for his 100, he has been better than Laxman and Dravid. You sir, are the one who should be ashamed of your accusation of a player who has gone to the extent of playing after his father's death, playing with the utmost of pains in many situations, just for the team's sake. Just because his and the team's form has dropped doesnt mean you can make baseless accusations

Again my issue is not with people who want him to retire. He has to go sooner or later and we cant be in a worse position than now. My issue is with people who come up with un-warranted accusations. Like he is playing ODIs only for his 100, he has been selfish, etc. And this is true when they speak about Dravid and Laxman too
