So we played 3 spinners today........

Zaheer for Ashwin would be my prediction. Thing is you don't want the tail to be completely ridiculous. Late clearing of the boundaries is already compromised with Jadeja at #7. But if you dropped him surely Pathan would have to be the replacement.

There was no need to play shitloads of spinners while you have alrightish parttimers. Besides why on earth did we bowl first if we were going with spin loaded attack?

Just took a look at the scorecard - Virat Kohli was India's first change seam bowler on an Australian wicket. India's bowling "attack" - Kumar, Kumar, Kohli, Raina, Ashwin, Sharma, Sharma, Jadeja. :wall:

Always starts with a minor niggle which then results in the end of the tour. Am not very hopeful given Zak's injury ridden career.

It's time we moved away from unfit oldies and blew up the team. We won the WC and it's time to start over again. No point in continuing with Zak, SRT etc. Give youngsters a chance and try to have a team by the time 2015 WC comes along coz this team would struggle to beat Zim, B'desh and Ireland in these conditions and on these pitches.

This is what Clarke said at the toss: "I was going to bat first' date=' wicket looks very good, [b']probably a bit drier than I thought, so it could turn a bit and we will have to be careful against their spinners." Maybe the team selection wasn't bad just that after the rain the spinners just couldn't grip the ball or in the case of Ashwin and Jadeja just couldn't get it to land properly and got smashed.
Aussie dry pitches are not as dry as Indian pitches. Did you hear the pitch report bu Chappal and Sanju, Chappal this is a good batting track, but listen what Sanju said he said this is a good batting track for Aussie standards, but it is hard and will have some bounce as well and Indian batsmen will not found it an easy batting tracks. Even the best spinning tracks in Australia always support fast bowlers more than spinners. They are not gonna turn square and when they knew rain is eminent still they played 3 spinners. I feel they were in quandary as which spinner to leave. Rahul has been the best spinner, Dhoni did not want to drop Ashwin, and they need Jadeja to bat at 7. They will again be doubtful in the next match as who to leave and I think only one spinner should play and that is Rahul Sharma on performance.

Umesh Yadav is good for tests but not in limited overs because he doesnt have control. Even in tests, he was leaking a lot of runs and in ODIs, you cant just give away easy runs. So not selecting him was not all that bad of a decision. Zaheer has a bit of a knee problem and he just played 4 tests in a row. So resting him was not a bad decision. There's still a long way to go in this series. 7 league games to go and he will probably be playing in the latter half. I think India should go with another batsman. 3 spinners - Ashwin, Rahul Sharma, Jadeja along with Raina, Rohit Sharma and Kohli is an overkill. Sehwag can bowl some offspin. He should come in the place of Rahul Sharma. Ashwin has been a proved performer in T20s and ODIs for quite a while. It would be foolish to drop him. He just has to change his length a bit and bowl a full length and he will be alright. Also remember it rained quite a bit the other night and it was probably hard to grip the ball and so the spinners were not so effective.

^^Yeah he is the best of the lot and he is a very good batsman as he showed in the tests. He has scored a test match century and looked more comfortable than even some other proper batsmen against Aussie pacers.

Buddy, anyone can become a proven performer by bowling on Indian pitches and bowling 4 overs in an IPL match. Why don't we look up Ashwin's records for the Test series in Australia? As for his batting, it is a plus. But he's not picked for his batting.
