I didn't believe they had it in them to do so but have been proved wrong. Congrats :hatsoff: One thing is clear that fast bowling all-rounders like Kulasekara, Thissera Perera and Angelo Mathews provide much more value in Aus compared to the likes of Jaddu. And we kept the only pace all-rounder in Irfan on the bench for 1st half of the series in favor of Jaddu and actually went in a game with 3 spinners :banghead: Hope our selectors and team management have learnt the lesson that come 2015 WC pace bowling all-rounders will be needed and not bits & pieces trundlers like Jaddu, and hope Irfan is persisted with as he has age on his side. Irfan may very well be carted all over in sub-continent but in Aus (in 2015 WC) he would be invaluable.

DEKH LEGA INDIA!!! Unfortunately we didn't do enough on either front We still played SRT in the team and other than Rohit, who definitely is not a newbie to odis, I didn't see any other youngsters. The infighting that ensued proves that the team had other things on their mind, and winning the tri-series was not one of them.

All their trundlers have bowled according to the plan and field. Good job by Captain and Coach. their batting has been much better than our power-house batting line up on these wickets.

One major factor is that SL quickly figured out the right combination after just a couple of games whereas we still haven't done so. SL figured that spinners can't do the job here and went in with Perera, Kulasekara, Mathews and Maharoof who are all fast bowling all-rounders, and dropped spinners like Senanayeke and Mendis. You will rarely see all these medium paced all-rounders play in subcontinent or other venues. On the other hand we went in games with 3 spinners and have played Jaddu every game :omg: We only had one medium paced all-rounder in Irfan and we kept him on the bench till the end, and he is 10 times better than the likes of Jaddu and Pappu. Then from going in with 3 spinners we went in with just 5 specialist batsmen in the previous game with pappu coming in at 6 :facepalm: Batting has been our problem since WC and we actually went in with a weakened batting lineup!!! Not just that, we played Pappu at 6 knowing fully well that his best batting position is as an opener as he can maybe manage a 20 or 30 there but at 6 he can't do jack-shyte! He can't score quickly and neither can he clear the boundary. Ditto jaddu at 7. Playing pappu as an opener instead of at 6 would have at least deepened the batting with a batsman coming in at 6 but our team management simply wanted to prove a point to each other and decided to play him at 6 with no Rohit, so that Sehwag could "rest" a youngster and prove Dhoni wrong.

Ultimate_Game Posted February 24, 2012 Author Posted February 24, 2012 Their fortunes changed when Mahela started opening with Dilshan at the top Yup, they were smart enough to figure out their team combination and batting order, whereas we are still struggling, especially given the fact SRT is around and we have to go with the rotational policy to get a 39 year old has-been in the team. If he weren't around at least we would have a much better chance in figuring out our best combination. No we are stuck with having a new opening combination every game and I haven't seen any team change their top order every game and be successful.

We never made a change even after going 0-4 in Eng and 0-8 happened and same here in tri-series with Jaddu still in the team when he adds no value. Plus we keep on rotating the top order rather than make a tough call and rest SRT from all the games.

Do not play VEERU outside of sub-continent..
