And can see why it picked up a the major gongs... but Best Actor?? Not sure about that one...having said that Ive only seen The Dscendants of the other Best Actor contenders...

Lurker Posted February 27, 2012 Posted February 27, 2012 Overall a pretty decent Oscar show. Billy Crystal was a good host with decent laughs and witty quips. Nothing outlandish but still worth good laughs. Meryl Strip was dead on when she said half of US probably goes "Oh there she goes again" on her nomination. I felt the same way. Glad to see her win but Glenn Close's performance was better I thought. Then again Oscars and a role built around Britan not getting an award? Kidding me? The Artist won many awards, havent seen it so cant comment one way or the other. Was happy to see Christopher Plummer win. What was AR Rehman doing up there? He seems to be like a shaadi ka band master who shows up every year to play the music. Sandra Bullock's couple of lines in Chinese. Was it just coincidence or an acceptance of China as a world power and Hollywood's commercial interest in there? Meslissa McCarthy should have won best supporting actress award. Lastly, so many countries were represented, India was not. Nothing going our away of cinema these days.

Prakat Posted February 27, 2012 Posted February 27, 2012 Giving a Best Actress award to Meryl Streep is like giving the Best Drama Pulitzer to Shakespeare. Superfluous and does the award more honour than the recipient. Great to see Rahman becoming a regular conductor for the show - it's a great honour and he wears it well. Would love to see him do some outstanding work for a regular hollywood movie and win for it too.

I liked Noomi Rapace's interpretation of Lisbeth Salander more than that of Rooney Mara.

I don't say that Rooney Mara did badly for such a demanding role. But that role was so strong that possibilities of great acting were just endless.
