Looks like Dhoni wanted a rest from Asia Cup and the selectors initially agreed to it. But later on Amarnath opposed Sehwag being dropped/rested, but had to give in as 4 other selectors were in favour of dropping Viru. That's when Jimmy paaji said Dhoni cannot be rested unless there is a medical reason. Other selectors then agreed to it. No wonder news leaks initially said Dhoni has been rested and Gambhir will lead the side.

Earlier, Gambhir had also raised a controversy saying he would have liked to finish a match against Australia earlier than Dhoni did. He had made the observation after the team's narrow victory against Australia on February 12. "We shouldn't have taken the game to the 50th over. That's my personal observation. I know it's always easier to talk when you are in the dressing room and it's always tough in the middle, but my personal observation is we shouldn't have let this game go into the last over," Gambhir had said. Sehwag and Gambhir's open challenge to Dhoni had exposed the split in the Indian camp out in the open. But it seems the selectors have now cracked the whip. He explained the selection policies patiently. He only got pissed when reporters were asking useless questions like "How come Sehwag is dropped now for fitness if he played the whole series in Australia?". I am with my fellow Macchaan on this one. :two_thumbs_up:

yep... he was easily able to change his length in 2nd spell.. and was accurate enough otherwise u dont get so many wickets :winky:

Some positives but rubbish team selection. I am glad they brought back Yusuf and kept Raina. But the non-selection of Sehwag is a joke. Tendulkar's selection is now becoming a fetish for him to get his 100th at every opportunity and with every failure he hurts the teams development not allowing opportunities to the likes Rahane or other unfortunate upcoming player. Vinay is hopeless. Time selectors also realise form overseas counts for nothing when playing in Asia, and they have to smart when they pick players (esp. batsmen).
