Do We Discourage Lethal Bowlers ?

It is happening because of poor writs position. In CB series in 2008' date=' his deliveries were going quicker after pitching than Brett Lee. They showed a comparison between Brett Lee and Ishant on a same pace delivery at 141k and similar length. Ishant's delivery after pitch the ball went at 121K while Lee's delivery was 111K. Sheer 10K difference was there, but off late, he has messed with his seam position and wrist. He is still generating pace, but is not getting the zip and seam of the deck due to non-exsistent seam position.[/quote'] thats an amazing stat! i think philander is some one who gets nip.. steyn at his best.. thats why his 145 k bowl looks quicker then even 153 :P

You are mistaking speed with excitment, and even that momentary. Srinath was exciting. He burst on the scene drawing comparison with Kapil, then making people question why he was not being played more and only improved from there. In the era of premium pacers he held his own. That, to me, is exciting. Not a series of pace burst.
Agree with you. Munaf could have been as exciting as Srinath, but he was misguided and I do not think he was inspired enough to bowl fast. He did not have in him to do the hard work of bowling fast for a long period of time.

Another thing which I notice about him now is he does not stay as upright now as he used be tin 2008 CB series that is why he is losing on some extra bounce bounce as well.[/quote'] Indeed ! I remember that spectacular comparison but I think it was for 146 k deliveries bowled by each bowler. The speed gun reading, as seen by us, is misleading as it shows the release speed. They should also show the speed at which it reaches the batsmen because that is the pace the batsman feels and has to play. Ishant was much quicker than Lee in 2008 on this count. Currently, I feel, Ishant has a mixed effect in terms of pace after pitching. Due to his poor wrist position he has lost zip and bounce on some deliveries but some other deliveries still zip through in a hostile fashion. But surely he is not as hostile and bouncy off good length deliveries on a consistent basis ... as he used to be .

The current Asia Cup squad just takes the cake as far as pace bowlers are concerned. Even by our august standards there has rarely been such a collection of batsmen friendly pacers in the Indian team. Well done Srikanth and co.

No we always encourage them by giving our wicket away to them. Of wait' date=' you mean our own? [b']But we never had any
By discouragement I am meaning throughout the life of a bowler, right from the grassroot level to the end of his career. In order to encourage lethal bowlers our system has to search for talents, select them, groom them both at our domestic level as well as international level , maintain them so that their potency is not diminished and , if possible, improve them. The fact that our international team rarely has or ever had a lethal bowler is one of my points. That cannot be a natural occurance but as a result of accute disinterest towards good bowlers by our entire cricketing fraternity.

do the people running indian cricket realise how ****ing good this team would be if they had JUST ONE GOOD BOWLER/? just ONE guy that can hold a 25 average and take 3 wickets a game would be enuf to turn india into an unstoppable side. this batting lineup can polish off 300+ scores with no real effort, imagine if they were keeping the opponents down to 250 in every game. they even made number 1 and held it for a year and a half while depending on just 2 decent bowlers... india's priority over the next couple of years has to be the development of one or more quality, all condition bowlers...we get that, then forget it, india would barely lose. problem right now is that we are too busy chasing scores above par and in tests, we cant take 20 wickets consistently/cheaply enuff to set up winning positions. batsmen can only do so much for u

Exactly. even one good bowler would chnge this team to a large extent. we all remember what Kumble did in sub-continent test matches. India became unbeatable at home tests during Kumble's best days.

At last ..... Someone who has the potential to be a lethal bowler for our country. Pace + accuracy + seam movement + swing both ways + reverse swing + attacks stumps. I hope our captain handles him properly and our system does not destroy him. This is the kind of bowler I want. Someone who can destroy a batting lineup singlehandedly.

Who are the other potentially lethal bowlers playing domestic cricket ? Any other pacer who combines pace with movement apart from Shami ? From whatever little I have seen, Pawan Suyal can move the ball at pace.

express bowling,i can understand ur relief mate :cantstop: but its still early to call, though this time we will have a good pool of pacers for the away tours which is key to pick 20 wkts in a test match..at last some genuinely good propositions

Shami is far from named as lethal. Most of the batsmen he dismissed are pathetic international players bar Samuels. We have to wait and see.Probably will do against right handers.. Needs to see more before concluding anything.

Yadav Shami Bhuvan Zaheer / Pandey If we play this attack on the expected green tracks in South Africa, we have a very good shot at taking 20 saffer wickets and winning atleast 1 match. The first two are world-class Strike bowlers and the other two are skilled and precise, and will be difficult to handle on pitches where just being accurate may fetch you wickets. We also have a better and in-form batting line-up than the last time around. I really hope the selectors don't pick pieces of sh1t like Ishant and Vinay this time around.

agree but if we play yadav and bhuvan along with him and a good spinner that is an attack which can take 20 wickets easily if conditions help.. we do not have dale steyn, infact no other team has we need to create attack which is world class as whole rather then finding one atg bowler .. england have similar strategy you never see one guy taking 6 wickets and 3-4 in one spell (broad on his lucky days does against mediocre players ) otherwise its always collective effort of 2-3 wickets each by anderson, swann and others
