We are in the worst period of our cricketing history in the last decade. We are way down in rankings suddenly and have nothing to lose anywhere. This is the ideal time for rebuilding the team with young blood. So' date= hope Sachin announces his retirement in the next few days so that young guys like Tiwary etc. can come and can be given an extended run in the team before finalizing on the new team for the next half a decade or so. I don't think it can get any worse that 2007 ODI WC. Also, last years WC win is not bad either.

I have always said that unless he fixes his patience and shot selection and plays sensibly he might not make it in the long run in ODIs. Viru is worse than Sachin or anybody else especially when he is out of form. I would like next generation cricketers to be used in rebuilding the team and not Veeru etc. unless they fix their batting and return back to form. Viru has a few years if he can return back to form though. Viru will find whatever form he's lost as we'll be playing pretty much in the subcontinent in the next 2 years.

It's time we blood players like Rohit, Rahane and Pujara who are middle order batsmen and that's where they should play, and not as an opener. However Mukund can be tried at the top IMO.

He seems to have lost it at the opening slot - and it would be too early to drop him from the team for good.

He actually did pretty decently. 3 fifties in 5 innings with the lowest score bring 37. Not bad against an attack comprising Edwards, Rampaul, Roach and Bishoo.

His 60 in the last day of the Test would have been of great use had India not botched up the chase ending in a 'tied draw'. Also remember that India had had middle-order collapses in 2 innings out of the 3 Tests, despite Viru scoring a fifty in each of those innings. So in a way, he did pretty well for himself. A series average of 49 is never a failure. Viru may have run out of steam overseas, but has been in terrific form in all the home Test series since his comeback.

Botham once labelled him a "greedy player."
