Can we ever take early wkts?

The kind of batting we have, all we need one strike pace bowler and a strike spinner.. We have none..Zak was there but I don't see him being a regular in the team... Ashwin is not stepping up or maybe we have had high hopes from him... Hope VK comes back in the finals (can't believe I'm saying that).. There's nothing in the pithes in Bangladesh.. You need clever bowlers to outthink the batsmen.. I'm sorry to say, but Ashwin doesn't appears to be a clever bowler..So might as well try out the rookie Rahul Sharma..
Same is the case in India. One would have imained Indian bowlers would know what to do on these sort of surfaces as they have been playin on such pattas all their lives. I can understand Aussie, SA or Eng bowlers looking totally clueless on such surfaces as they are used to helpful tracks but surely Indian bowlers would have been used to the same by now. I wonder how these trundlers are able to pick wkts at domestic level oz if they are we have bigger problems, i.e. our domestic batsmen can't even play these trundlers on pattas. We were lucky in the game against Pakis as lenty of full-tosses went unpunished. Every over there were at least 2-3 full-tosses from our trundlers and most of them were hit only for a single. You can't expect the same to happen everytme or in the final. Dropping a pacer in the final for Rahul Sharma is the way to go and I seriously hope bigwigs at BCCI are spending some of that moolah in trying to find some bowlers

Did that on many occasions in the last 12 months 1. WC final SL were 2/60, WC semis Pak were 2/70 2. Had WI at 3/59, 5/77, 4/89, 2/53 in 4 out of the 5 ODIs in WI 3. Had Eng at 2/27, 3/89, 3/61, 2/40 in 4 out of the 7 ODIs in Eng. 4. Had Eng at 2/40, 3/48, 2/53, 2/39, 3/52 in 4 out of 5 ODIs in India 5. Had WI at 3/52, 5/63, 2/42, 4/90, 5/78 in the 5 ODIs in India 6. Had Aus at 3/49, 3/81, 3/57 in 3 out of the 4 ODis in Aus and also had SL at 3/79 in one of the CB series match So in reality we have struggled to take wickets in the last 4-5 matches which have been played on totally dead wickets. Also remember that the current pace attack will not be playing if Zaheer, Umesh, Aaron, Munaf are all fit. Maybe our bowling isn't as bad if we have the first choice attack available The only problem is when we do not take these wickets, we end up giving 290-300 runs to the opposition thats when we think how this bowling attack is the worst. :P

yadav nd aaron should share the new ball' date=' lets see what they do, will surely pick wickets, might be expensive sometimes[/quote'] I would like to see Ishant given a go as well. His main problem in the recent past was that he was bowling in late 120s to early 130s. In Aus he showed he could bowl in high 140s consistently and it would be good to give him a series or two and see where he's at. If he shows improvement it would be huge for us as the next WC is in Aus and we will definitely need a pace oriented attack.

we can, but bangbros have created total phatta tracks in their stadium just so their team wont loose early wickets while playing international matches. atleast vinay was taking early wicket on indian tracks against England which is currently best seam playing team barring last match.

Somehow we've done plenty of chopping and changing and its backfired. Assuming that Isshhaant & Sreesanth are not good enough for odis, we have thrown the entire WC winning lineup bar Zaheer (Bhajji, Nehra, Munaf) in less than a year. Isn't that a bit harsh on them considering VK is our new ball bowler ?

Dhoni is using Ashwin anyway inside power play. Why not open with him. He could be more effective there than when he is after batsmen get settled down.
Problem is that PK, Koomar, Irfan etc are swing bowlers and their best chance (or only chance) of wickets is with the new ball.

He cannot use certain bowlers in certain times. Lot of things have to go perfectly right for Dhoni.

The tracks/conditions here are not suited for Swing trundlers we've got. Umar gul was hitting the deck hard and was getting serious bounce in early overs. So probably Dinda , Pathan with new ball and VK as first change is the best option we've got.

We'll never unless our squad has the following pace attack Yadav Varun Ishant Zak (till he retires from ODIs which could be soon) Vinay (if only to give the other ones a break every now and then). Bowlers like Pathan and PK should be dropped on a permanent basis, I think. Their good performances are too few. When they are bad they tend to be really bad.

I mentioned that after the Bangladesh game. His selection of the playing 11 is debatable but he has very limited resources and can't do much if the fecking bowlers keep bowling full tosses in the end overs.

The only issue I have on Dhoni are his field placements outside the sub-continent. The in-out fields works best only at home conditions, IMHO. Other places, I feel he keeps it simple and makes best use of his resources.
