Gandharv Vivah, translates to love marriage - not to live-in relationships and I am sure you not trying to equate Devdasi thing with Live-in relationships. Not sure what Devtaon ka aahwhan thing is.

"devta ka aahwan" was - when some woman cant get pregnant, they will go to some saadhu, who will pray to some gods, god enters saadhu and makes the woman pregnant magically....and the child would be called son of that particular god... IIRC thats how Kunti got pregnant.

every ****ing religion has screwed up god, they just cant evolve.what culture are they talking about?a culture can change, you can change it to fit the modern times.Women are not Chattels, they can take care of themselves and idiotic old men should not be dictating the meaning of a family or relationships.

Interesting. That aspect. So' date=' what is that time period and where is that mentioned. And how does the court derive on the conclusion that the couple has been living for [b']that time period. Do they check with the neighbors. And what is they were just friends at the start and not live-ins? What if they were living in adjacent houses at the start and not in the same apartment as in live-in? And who confirms the time period and what proof would suggest that unless there is a registrar of live-ins in the future :giggle:
Some of these are valid questions. Time period isn't necessarily as important as you make it out to be. Of more vital significance is what exactly constitutes a live in. There is a lot of ambiguity over that and the phrase isn't clearly outlined. For eg, can a wealthy man who financially maintains and has a relationship with her be counted as a live in? What about servants who staying at a residence? Having said that, there are some developments which are quite encouraging. Children born from a live in are entitled to a share of property of both their parents. The domestic violence bill discriminate between a married woman or a live in one either.

Mariyam, under Indian law, are both parents of a bastard child liable for child support? So if the child lives with the mother, is it compulsory for the father to contribute to the cost of the child's upbringing?

lol. A friend was sharing his apt. with his girlfriend in delhi for a year. A week after they broke up she let herself in with her keys while he was at work and cleaned out the apartment. She even took the bed and the mattresses and the mirror. :D

I don't get it...why would you want to live with your gf? What is this a practice run before marriage? you wake up she's there...you go to bathroom she's there...can't even take a dump in peace looking at the naughty ladies on your fav magazine..imagine you're abt to watch cricket or any other sport...you have your beer, fresh bag of chips ready to go...here comes your gf wanting to cuddle and talk about her mom while you miss a major chunk of that all imp game. You end up buying an extra tv for her but that doesn't satisfy her as she wants to watch tv "together" while making your viewing pleasure miserable. What about when she deletes all the shows you've recorded to be watched later and tapes the royal wedding live from london so she can sit there, cry, use up all the tissues and blame you for not being as rich as Prince William, what about when she removes all your fav posters and replaces them with pictures of flower, buys flower vases & potpourri, makes you do the bed every day TWICE, throws important sh1t away while 'cleaning' your desk that you did NOT ask her to do, you come home every day tired from work and she wants to drag you out every day to eat out due to her lack of skills in the kitchen while you max out your c.c., wants you to entertain her mom while she's out shopping and then comes back home and announces her mom is staying not 1 day but a whole week! And all this sacrifice just so that you can get some sexy time once a week?? ask yourself is it worth it??

Emotional reasons - "true love", "made for each other", "we will never get bored of each other" and so on. Practical reasons - early stage of career, so not much salary, sharing expenses and stuff for better quality of life than if you stay alone. And not to mention the bragging rights - "I am getting laid 24x7", even if you are living in separate rooms.

Not really...the attempt is to give security to women in live in relationship for a long time similar to women in a marriage.
And does that not negate the very purpose of a live ion relationship? If the woman wants marriage, she will marry. She is stead opts for live in because she does not want all the legal trouble. People get into live-in so that they can break away easy when the time comes. Both parties enter this arrangement knowing fully well what the advantages, disadvantages and consequences are. By pushing law into what is supposed to be an informal relationship, defeats the whole point of a live-in.
