NEW DELHI: The Nawab of Najafgarh's sister is going to add to the glam quotient of the municipal polls this year. Anju Mehrwal, elder sister of cricketer Virender Sehwag, is making her political debut on a Congress ticket from Dakshinpuri Extension in south Delhi. Mehrwal (35), a Hindi teacher in Laxman Public School and mother of two, will be contesting for the reserved seat for women. Her famous brother is likely to do a quick act for his sister, but he won't be available for the whole campaigning due to his IPL commitment. "He knows that I am contesting the elections. He has a very busy schedule all throughout April due to IPL; but we are hoping that he will take some time out for campaigning," said Mehrwal. She is the first in her family to join active politics. "It may be my first time, but I have been involved in social work as an active member of NGO Shikhar that works for destitute women and children," said Mehrwal. She moved out of Najafgarh to Madangiri (part of Dakshinpuri ward) in 2000 after her marriage to Ravinder Singh, a contractor. She said her ward needs better sanitation and hygiene. "Despite being centrally located, the area looks neglected. I would like to improve the amenities in the area with a special focus on sanitation and hygiene," she added. Right from Independence, the Dakshinpuri seat was reserved for the SCs/STs; but with the 50% reservation coming into effect, this became a general seat reserved for women. "I thought this was a good time to try my luck," Mehrwal said. http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/delhi/Virus-sister-a-Congress-candidate-in-south-Delhi/articleshow/12421988.cms

She wants her cricketer brother to campaign for her' date=' shows us how qualified a candidate she is. :winky:[/quote'] Whats wrong in that? Her brother is famous and it's natural that she would like him to promote her in her campaign. And we should not be judging her solely by that.

Question is, what exactly is she other than the sister of a famous brother? This is the reason we have guys like N.Siddhu, Jayaprada, M. Azar, Govinda all in politics, cause they are famous and nothing else.

Siddhu is not as bad as the others...he can be very articulate and knows what he is doing when he tones it down.

According to the numbers, I think as an MP he's spent the most funds for his constituency.

Virender Sehwag bats for sister in MCD polls New Delhi: Cricketer Virender Sehwag on Thursday added more star power to Delhi municipal polls campaigning by canvassing votes for his sister who is contesting the elections on a Congress ticket. Sehwag, the captain of Delhi Daredevils, took time off IPL and spent around two hours in the evening in Dakshinpuri Extension, the ward from which his sister Anju Meherwal is fighting the elections. Criss-crossing the ward in an open jeep, the hard-hitting batsman tried to woo the electorate seeking votes for the 35-year-old candidate, a Hindi teacher. Anju is married to a property dealer Ravinder Singh and lives in Madangir village. There was a huge crowd to see Sehwag who was campaigning with his sister. Dressed in a green T-shirt and sporting a cap, Sehwag went to some bylanes. However, he did not make any speech during his campaigning.
