Number 4 is one of the most important position in any batting line up. You cannot have a no. 4 batsmen not score even a single fifty in 17 matches. How can a useless wicketkeeper batsman who used to bat at no 7 for India, bat at no 4.
You cant blame 1 batsman for its failures, if you even call it that. The main reason MI is not great is because of your foreign players and a 3-over-spell-when-its-safe captain. Generally, you do not have backups for certain positions. Who was the big hitter in the end if pollard failed? Who was your main spinner if bhajji doesnt want to bowl? and apart from malinga, your other 3 foreigner slots were wasted. Get better foreign players and stop getting players who do well just once.

Five things Mumbai Indians did wrong in IPL 5 On the face of it, Mumbai have it all the richest owner, the worldÃÔ greatest batsman, the worldÃÔ best yorker specialist, a super coaching staff and yet they failed to harness all that talent and get past the Chennai Super Kings in the IPL Eliminatior. HereÃÔ why: Appointed Harbhajan skipper You do not want a captain who is not performing. You do not want a captain who is incapable of earning his spot in the team. You do not want a captain who forces better players to sit out because he has to play. MumbaiÃÔ problemÃÔ began and ended with Harbhajan Singh. The off-spinner was tactically not the smartest guy going around but in general, he has a force of character to inspire others around him. However, with his own form being down in the dumps, HarbhajanÃÔ IPL 5 can best be characterised as a disaster. Allowed Tendulkar to open the innings Sachin Tendulkar is a great batsman. But in T20, he is ÃÔtill learning the ropes and he values his wicket too much. If you have Richard Levi and Herschelle Gibbs in your line-up you want them up the order. Ambati Rayudu has done the job well too. Dwayne Smith didnÃÕ do a very bad job either. Mumbai needed to begin their innings with a bang but with Sachin around, it never happened often enough. To accommodate Sachin up the order, Mumbai kept changing the opening combination and that is never good. Compare this to Delhi or Kolkata and you know why Mumbai struggled. SachinÃÔ strike-rate of just 114 was also never good enough. Pollard didnÃÕ fire The West Indian was amazing in the field. He made some fantastic stops, took some amazing catches but as a batsman he failed. He even chipped in with some wickets but his economy rate. Certainly for a player who was valued at 2.2 million, he wasnÃÕ good enough. Rayudu batted too deep in the order Throughout the tournament, Ambati Rayudu was one of MumbaiÃÔ better batsmen but he almost always batted too low in the batting order. James Franklin was even tried as opener but other than one innings of 79, he rarely ever got going. Rayudu, on the other hand, often looked good but he rarely had a chance to make his mark. Little support for Malinga At the start of the season, Malinga had the likes of Munaf Patel and Kieron Pollard taking wickets as well. But by the end, these bowlers had become ineffective. Mumbai also struggled because they lacked a good spinner. So despite spending a fortune to build the squad, Mumbai had glaring weaknesses in their bowling attack.

Mumbai Indians Indian Premier League 5 Team Assessment Another of the Indian Premier LeagueÃÔ pre-tournament favourite bid farewell to season five, as Mumbai Indians crashed out following a beating from Chennai Super Kings in the first eliminator match. While an onslaught from Mahendra Singh Dhoni always spells doom for the opposition, MumbaiÃÔ exit as the no 4th team will be hardly pleasing for the owners, who have splashed out heavy cash to assemble one of the most formidable squads in the competition. However, as it stood the giants always remained spoiled for choices and ultimately found it difficult to find a smooth combination throughout the competition. Their miseries were compounded by the instability upfront, leaving too much pressure on the middle and lower order. Mumbai scooped up all sorts of players. Overseas signings included Herschelle Gibbs, Richard Levi, Robin Peterson, Clint McKay and Dwayne Smith, who replaced Mitchell Johnson. They further went on heavy domestic spree notable being RP Singh and Pragyan Ojha. Top Players Their batting hardly gelled and always offered little in terms of consistency. While Levi introduced himself with a debut half-century on the opening day, he went haywire after that. Same was the case with Gibbs and Peterson, and as result were in and out of the team. SmithÃÔ late entry was eventful. His debut appearance saw him clinch an unlikely victory for his side, scoring three boundary shots off the final three balls bowled by Ben Hilfenhaus. His partnership with Tendulkar also yielded some success and remained their highest scorer in the play-off match. Among the domestic players, Rohit Sharma and Ambati Rayudu stood out. The former was his sideÃÔ highest run-getter, with 433, including a stupendous century effort against KKR. Rayudu shared the burden when the chips were down and ended with a healthy tally of 333 at 37.00. His contributions were valuable considering Sachin Tendulkar did little throughout the campaign. In the bowling department, Lasith Malinga yet again demonstrated his prowess, finishing with 22 wickets at an impressive economy rate of 6.30. Though his performances were anticipated, what wasnÃÕ foreseen was the battering he got in the final game, where he conceded 41 in 4 overs. Other bowlers complimented him on their days but Harbhajan Singh was the biggest disappointment, with both ball and as the leader of the team. Disappointment and joy For a franchise of giant stature, their disciplinary acts were highly unwanted, for which they were duly penalized. Munaf Patel was at the centre of some obnoxious behaviour, and Harbhajan was also guilty of crossing the limit, along with Rayudu. They were further penalized for a slow-over rate in the elimination game with the skipper fined a whopping $40, 000, while players had to surrender $10,000 each. There were plenty of last-over joys for the side Rohit SharmaÃÔ six against Deccan Chargers, Robin PetersonÃÔ bludgeoning knock against Kings XI Punjab, while Pollard-Rayudu partnership which toppled Royal Challengers Bangalore. Final Assessment Having invested so much, the Indians will be disappointed they failed to find consistency. They always needed solidity upfront but always came up short TendulkarÃÔ early phase injury being pivotal. Also the buy of Dinesh Karthik proved costly as his woes totally left them dependent on last-ball heroics a scenario which needs to be addressed in months to come. The skipper however, was humble after their campaign was finally over, conceding that Chennai played like true champions. "Of course, I am disappointed that we lost, but we cannot change the result. The CSK played like champions and deserved to win," Harbhajan said.

Mumbai Indians need to trim down their squad and get rid of ineffective players, bring in new uncapped indian players and buy some good ones in the auction. I think they should get rid off: Aiden Blizzard Richard Levi James Franklin Davy Jacobs Clint McKay Harbhajan Singh

MI can take heart from the fact that they still have change to defend their CLT20 title this year. They will have to play the qualifier like KKR last year....& move on to CLT20 from there. The IPL disappointment can turn into a joy with successfull defense.

Destiny, thy name is MI. Dear ICF, this is MI. MI. Not your aira gaira CSK or RCB or Lucknow nawabs or Delhi Darindas or Darjeeling XI. In MI the team is the star. Individualism is not encouraged, no matter how many 100s you have or how fast you can bowl. I know missing out on stellar personalities like RP Singh will be a big blow, but the way the MI machine runs is that it has well oiled replacements should such a contingency occur. God will be witness, that history will be made when MI becomes the first team to win the CL two years on the trot. Not only that, MI will also be lonely at the top like it was for most of the previous season. *SRT mode* Muqabla abhi baaaaaaaqi hai */SRT mode off*
