Old guy Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 he certainly looks much quicker when he bowls even a 140 k ball its all bcos of good sem and wrist position he is getting that zip its jsut soo good to see against kkr umesh was clocking quicker but some balls by aaron looked quicker then umesh (from the way batsmen played it )
MCcricket Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 i remember that ball being 139 Gony bowled 147 k in the last game and Aaron didn't he bowl 147.4 in his first game??.I am surprised about Gony, he has performed very well in Ranji last 3 years, clearly has pace, is strong built, about 6 5", bowls the heavy ball, and have seen him move and bounce the ball on any track, why isn't he in the scheme of things for the longer version. I was just reading Ian Ponts book and on a day when I have time I will compare the images on the book the problems shown and Yo Mahesh's action and we can see how bad his approach his bowling arm coming around his landing foot and non use on left hand could mean.His action is so bad I am surprised he is allowed to bowl, any one with decent knowledge will not risk injury and poor performance bcoz with his current action he is useless , same with Mithun. Surprisingly Awana, Umesh, Gony ,Ishant and Irfan with their modified action look more in sync, also Varun seems to have imrpoved his run up a bit and has a good whiplash action and drive thru with his hips now, surprisingly Awana and Aaron have very similar action just before the uncoil and release the ball, although Awana when he jumps and gathers himself could place his right hand more close to his body like Brett Lee and hold onto his action a wee bit and could get more pace and bounce.

My point is selectors are stupid not to look at VRV, Tyagi, Gony, when they are fit and in form for test's , as they have experience, pace, very good performers in Domestic, outside, Umesh, Aaron, Ishant, selectors should look at them as a group as Aaron, Umesh need couple of years to be good in test level.The above three bowlers clearly when fit and bowling well show they are at a level above the other domestic bowlers. Zak to me is on his last leg, we will be in a desperate situation soon, selectors have no plans at all, only if the bowling coach or Fletcher realize this and go the Paki way of picking up talent and not mediocricity will we improve, something like Rahul Sharma was picked up.

I don't believe wickets are the only thing that reflects a bowlers stature, which bowler will I have in my IPL team first , it will be Steyn , not Morne, Malinga, as haven't seen any one that can disrupt and make the best batters nervous like he can, same way Ishant would be playing in my team regardless , rather then having a RP, PK , for what he can do to the best batsmen.

He needs overs under his belt away from the massive pressure of Test cricket to give him match fitness and to allow him to work out lines and lengths. He needs time away from the international team and he can come back better than ever. He is a magnificent Test prospect, but not if he is kept in the Test squad until dropping is inevitable.

Rather let him play domestic first and prove his form abd fitness.
