youngindia Posted April 7, 2012 Posted April 7, 2012 To gain success in international level, a top class batsman is expected to play a primary role in winning matches/setting up matches atleast in days of good form. in all the season of watching IPL, i have had my doubts about these two. they too often play a supporting or lesser role. often scoring fifties when nothing is too demanding. i have rarely seen these guys grab a match from a demanding position. what do our selectors do? they select the two players most clueless about matchwinning abilities despite years of seasoning at FC/India A level. even their junior rahane has started kicking on from last year. for lack of progress despite years of experience, these guys take the cake. do they really play some telling knocks in Fc level? obviously they have made their FC record look good. as long as they were there, i was pretty confident they will disappear without do much damage.
Number Posted April 7, 2012 Posted April 7, 2012 Never rated Patel as an intl Cricketer. there was a time when I used to think Shikhar Dhawan will be better than Gambhir in intl Cricket :giggle:. Gambhir really supassed my expectations and Shikhar failed.
Ultimate_Game Posted April 7, 2012 Posted April 7, 2012 Pappu is a guy who can't do much other than get 20s or 30s. He might get a 50 once in a blue moon but that's his peak. He shouldn't be anywhere near the Indian team. As for Dhawan he hasn't done much to get into the Indian team.
Texy Posted April 7, 2012 Posted April 7, 2012 Look at Saurabh Tiwary too....there was so much hype...even got an opportunity to play for the national XI ...major failure and slowly fizzled out
Ultimate_Game Posted April 7, 2012 Posted April 7, 2012 Look at Saurabh Tiwary too....there was so much hype...even got an opportunity to play for the national XI ...major failure and slowly fizzled out But you have to admit he didn't really disappoint at intl level. He played 2 matches and remIned unbeaten in both, and in the 2ndmatch he helped yusuf pathan to win the match aainst kiwis from an impossible position. He at least looks like he's not over-awed by the match siuation. I would prefer to see Saurabh Tiwary ahead of the likes of pappu.
GautiMaan Posted April 7, 2012 Posted April 7, 2012 Dhawan was said to be better than gauti at Delhi initially, but gauti just had the thirst and improved his game after 1-2 yrs Saha and even Uthappa and DK are better than parthiv, his selection as 2nd wicket keeper makes no sense

These sort of players are tough to find and Gambhir shoud be around for a few more years. Agree that i don't really see what selectors see in pappu patel. The guy's a hack and can'tdo much at intllevel. Dinesh Karthik is much better. He at least has the talent but throws it away due to poor shot selection. Pappu on the other hand doesn't even have the talent. Pappu is similar to Murali Vijay with the difference being that Murali Vijay's go to shot is the mow on the leg side between deep mid wkt and widish long on whereas Pappu's only run scoring option is the bakward point/gully area.
The Realist Posted April 7, 2012 Posted April 7, 2012 The level of mediocrity in domestic cricket just make you want to bang your head against a wall. Patel is just rubbish at every level as a wicketkeeper and batsman, what's even more staggering as that he is promoted up the order BUT he has NO shots!!! Vijay looked decent on debut but has regressed alarmingly to the extent that he is a walking wicket. And don't forget Nohit Sharma, had endless chances based on "talent" yet now in his mid-20s and still not done anything.

I've heard (in this forum) that Pappu Patel is close to people in high places. Dont know if its true.
youngindia Posted April 9, 2012 Author Posted April 9, 2012 dhawan showing promise today...but again found a way to get out...shot selection. talent is there but their thought process need to be questioned. they will get out somehow.
GautiMaan Posted April 9, 2012 Posted April 9, 2012 Yeah but parthiv showed why he must not be allowed anywhere near the Indian side, cant bat, cant keep, cant even hit the stumps at point blank range
saneindian Posted April 9, 2012 Posted April 9, 2012 Hopefully the dressing down from Darren Lehman makes Dhawan introspect. he has had so many 30s and 40s in the IPL, but never kicks on. The day he starts putting a price on his wicket and aim to bat for 10-12 overs for his side, he will be a very effective batsman. As for Parthiv, could well be his last game in this campaign with Sanga keeping wickets.
NareshK Posted April 9, 2012 Posted April 9, 2012 Selecting Parthiv over Dinesh Karthik is the dumbest selection I've seen. DK is easily the best WK in the country and batting wise, he is as good as Dhoni though the latter is a way better slogger and finisher. I think DK should always be the second choice keeper. Whoever thought of keeping him out is a brain dead loser.

kidnextdoor Posted April 19, 2012 Posted April 19, 2012 Looks like these two proved everyone wrong today!!!!!!!!!!!!!
jairamesh Posted April 29, 2012 Posted April 29, 2012 Papu and Babu haven't done too bad of late. Babu just loses his libido after power play overs finish.
saneindian Posted April 29, 2012 Posted April 29, 2012 Dhawan's last 13 IPL innings- 19, 54, 29, 24, 27*, 28, 95*, 21, 41, 52, 44, 50, 16..one of the most consistent performers in last 2 IPLs Would be kicking himself for not converting more of those 20s and 30s to a 60-70 score.
Sir john Posted April 29, 2012 Posted April 29, 2012 Dhawan always gets over excited after hitting some fours.
