Dhoni cannot do much when a bowler bowls a full-pitched delivery on the pads when he has a packed off-side field. The other options he had were Morkel, who had conceded 21 runs in his 2 overs. He thought that Kula might be able to pull things back in the 19th, giving Mahesh atleast 13-15 runs to defend, but 12 runs off his over meant that Mahesh had only 10 to defend.

This was a belter of a track, not much turn for spinners, no seam or swing as well. 155 were always below par on this track.They could easily have scored 180 but for Dhoni's 26 of 28. I believe teams now can look to defeat MI and CSK and the remedy is to bat first against MI and bat second against CSK. MI looks troubled every time they chase, while CSK plays very circumspect whenever they bat first, especially whenever Dhoni comes up in the order while batting first he stalls the progress.
