Is IPL the only way to find new Pace bowlers?

I know IPL sucks, but is IPL the only way to find new pace bowlers? Last year it was Umesh and Varun. This year its Awana and Veer Prathab singh. This just shows our selectors don't even follow domestic cricket. What a shame...!!!

If you go through the threads about domestic cricket, those of us who follow it regularly have been talking about these bowlers regularly. The IPL surely offers a bigger platform to them and good performances get highlighted more than the domestic performances.

Problem is not finding. Problem is with delivering at the highest level consistently. It will take long time for us to develop a fast bowling culture on our patta wickets. That is why i limit my expectations from pace department and hope for good spinners to emerge. our bowlers either lack skill or pace something or the other to grow as a bowler.

I agree Umesh, Varun, Awana were all discussed before IPL, but they in the limelight only because of IPL.

Because of the lack of India 'A' series, IPL gives fans the best opportunity to see how these upcoming bowlers fair against an array of top class International players. Even if it's T20 but you do get the idea of which bowler has the right traits and attitude and have the potential to move upwards. Many bowlers even don't get selected in the India 'A' team. Like Awana missed out of the Indian 'A' tour to WI.

IMHO, we should not let the promising fast potential Test bowlers play the IPL. The BCCI could chumma grant them $500,000 and let them hone their trade in country cricket. We can pick like 5 bowlers per year depending on performance. This amount is like an incentive package to keep the bowlers performing. I'm sure BCCI has $2,500,000 to spend to pick 5 decent bowlers per year based on recommendations from the coach, captain and selectors.

They are scouting the fast bowlers through open trials nowadays and I have heard in commentary Ravi Shashtri saying that he talked to Ghavri and they have found a few potential lads.

You can't earn much if you don't have international experience. You will get the base amount.

USD 500,000 for not bowling in IPL *is* earning money! (no international experience).

Selectors and BCCI as a sports body is very poor, atleast they have some ideas about batters, very poor in grooming talent and identifying them mostly bowlers.Look at the past Iqbal Siddique lol the biggest joke, VK, PK, Mhambrey, Mohanty, Yohanan, Unadkat, RP, WHAT ABOUT wasted talent Ankola, R Kulkarni, Tyagi, Gony, Vaidya, Abey Kurruvilla, we have far better bowlers in domestic and lower leagues then the ones selected for India PK, VK, Mithun, Unadkat, Arvind. Ishant, Aaron, Irfan, Umesh, Zak should be the core and Awana, Nechim, Tyagi, Shukla, Dinda, Veer, Gony, P Singh, P Parmeswaran, Suyal, Shami, VRV, Sreesanth, A Ahmed should be groomed and all given a go as they are more capable then the mediocre pacers the selectors are investing in, all these bowlers can touch 140's if they are worked on and have the ingredients to be successful. India cannot be a world class team with a mediocre attack, biggest problem being selectors and Dhoni, look at his CSK bowling attack lol, he wont play Tyagi, or any other decent Indian pacer,Viru for test, Virat t20, Gambhir for Odi's, different teams for different formats. Budding pacers should be sent to England as a training exercise also Indian team can have a bowling consultant who can find talent and work on bowlers same with Batting consultant.Never ever did we have such a huge pool of fast medium to fast bowlers and I genuinely feel if handled well we can have a good attack.Zonal tournaments which are suppose to highlight the best of talent should select team per merit not quota also games should be held on sporting wickets and telecast live also promoted, and like IPL should have fixed spots for upcoming talented players not 35 year old wasted players.

The minimum players make is 20 lakhs, more than enough to have a good living in a major town in India. A player playing all matches in domestic cricket makes around 10-12 lakhs with players in plate leagues making at most 7-8 lakhs. For many of these players from not a very sound economical background, who have no other source of income and are the sole bread winners in the family, an IPL contract is nothing sort of a jackpot. Read a story of how Iqbal Abdulla bought a 1 BHK flat in Mumbai with the money he made from first two IPLs, that could be the story of many other lesser known players playing in the IPL.

its still much more then domestic cricket amount.. and i honestly think t20 cant spoil bowlers much unlike batsmen they end up developing good death bowling skills which are pretty useful they get help from guys like donald,pollock which is pretty useful imo

IPL hasn't produced even many good t20 bowlers for India. Look at bowling in this year IPL. Most of the best bowlers are non-Indians and Indian bowlers have got smashed badly this year. It seems domestic cricket other than IPL is still better way for finding bowlers for all formats.
