Rohit's List A record is not that great. At domestic level, it is his 1st class record that stands out. He is a run machine. He needs to be given a go in tests as his talent is such that we can't afford not to give him an opportunity. He has piled on the runs in the Ranji trophy and has earned his shot. Had he not got injured prior to that South Africa test, that could have been his chance to shine. Even if he fails in his 1st 5-10 tests, he must be given more chances. I think any new young batsman should be given 12-15 tests to establish himself unless it is evidently clear that he is out of his depth at international level.

He hasnt yet cracked thw code to play in ODI, still has played some good odi innings.

He played only three ODIs and it can happen when one sits out on the bench without any real cricket for two months. Kohli didnt score runs on tough pitches in west indies and rohit was MOS there. Rohit had a good 2008 CB series on much tougher tracks than this time.

Rohit had a good 2008 CB series on much tougher tracks than this time. he played well in final.. dont remember many other good innings but since ur saying it i beilive u honestly there is no comparison between performance of kohli and rohit..its no competition now i jsut want this guy to be a good batsman for india and i beilive he has some problems on bouncy tracks.. seen him literally struggle against south africa before that even i thought he was gonna succeed tht series changed my mind a bit now he is at tht stage where he needs to prove himself thts wit thts wht im tryn to say lol

Rohit does not have an issue with the short ball IMO.

Talent is about natural stroke play, range of shots, time to play genuine quick bowling, use of feet against spinners, pleasing to eyes and Rohit has that wow factor in his batting when he comes of, but when his gets out in ugly ways it is like how. Let him do all that consistently at international level. There is a reason why he has earned a nickname "Nohit". He has struggled against genuine quick bowling in South Africa. He has struggled against spinners. ye he is pleasing to eyes. That is the thing that makes everyone think that he is some sort of super talented batsman. Everyone is talented in their own way. Raina for all his weaknesses is a gifted hitter. He has the ability to place the ball in unusual areas when on song. he does it more at interntaional level not just IPL. Rohit scores mainly in IPL. that is a fact. might give orgasm to chargers fans.. He has a lot more to prove before this much hype. He could. No body questions. Until he does that let us all go easy on his "taulent".

Rohit does not have an issue with the short ball IMO.[/quote'] he no issue with bouncer his weakness is when bowler bowls outside of stump and cramps him he tries to hit the ball hard form there and i have seen him getting out many timesl ike this his problem is he can cant rotate strike from that position when ball is rising up on and outside of stump he either blocks it or tries to hit it hard and if it movies (like it did for tstobe 9sorry for spellings) he looks clueless i cant explan it to u in detail but i have noticed this soo many times now on sub continent tracks he has no problem like that ok do u remmeber tht dismissal against sri lanka where dilshan took a good catch at point? :winky:

I personally think he should not be in the ODI side at present but should be given a long rope in the test team.

He struggles when it seams and swing and there is no batsman who wont struggle against steyn and morkel in such conditions. One needs luck more than anything to survive then. Rohit's average in last year is more than any indian batsman. Rohit played good innings in CB series 2008 and thete must be some reason behind his success in IPL.

This is exactly how Umar Akmal is hyped. He tonked Shane bond all over in his debut test. That's it we never heard the end of it. Even Umar Akmal is so naturally talented but it is there mental makeup, temperament that is what is the key to their success and Virat Kohli is the guy who has that matured mental approach when it comes to ODIs. His mettle is yet to be tested in tests.

Or the surreal chase of 321 in 37 overs vs SL down under - again in a crunch match out of which he blasted 133 off 86 and took out Malinga as if he were a street cricketer bowling tennis balls. You sound like Ajit Agarkar is not that talented but just did something. Agarkar is one of the most naturally gifted progidy ever in Indian Cricket. For his gifts he should have achieved much more as a bowler as well as batsman. In fact your example proves how natural ability alone is not sufficient to make you a successful cricketer but you need character also.
