Sir john Posted May 22, 2012 Posted May 22, 2012 Pakistan's Twenty20 champions Sialkot Stallions, who will get an opportunity to take part in this year's Champions League in India, are confident of giving a tough challenge to other teams in the tournament. BCCI chief N Srinivasan confirmed that a team from Pakistan will play in this year's edition of the tournament, to be held in India in September. Sialkot Stallions led by Shoaib Malik will see Pakistani players playing on Indian soil for the first time in four years. Speaking with **********.net Sialkot Stallions coach and former Pakistan all rounder Naved Anjum was happy that Indo-Pak cricketing ties would resume on the international stage. "I'm not just looking forward to my team playing in the Champions League, but I feel it would be an honour to take part in such a tournament for myself and of course the whole of the Sialkot team and staff." Anjum also hopes that a Champions League appearance for the Sialkot Stallions in India will be the re-launch of cricketing ties between India and Pakistan and the start of some great cricketing encounters between the neighbours and their fierce rivals. "I feel that the likely participation of Sialkot in the Champions League is a positive sign. Hopefully the Champions League will be the start of the resumption in cricket ties between India and Pakistan at an international level also. There is nothing quite like a Pakistan versus India encounter and it's a shame that these matches are a rarity these days," he said. Sialkot has been the stand out performers in Pakistan's Twenty20 format. Even without exposure in foreign conditions, Anjum feels that the Sialkot team can be a very competitive unit in the Champions League due to the prevalent team spirit and the quality of leadership under Shoaib Malik. So BCCI have invited Pakistan so that they can show the clash between IPL and Pakistan domestic teams as India vs Pakistan clash and hope for a better TRP. This is the last attempt to revive CLT20 which is a failed competition.

This is the last attempt to revive CLT20 which is a failed competition. Not really a secret. ESPNstar, on losing the rights to IPL, overbid on this tournament. Its their own fault. IPL is 6 ~ 8 weeks of Indian cricket. When CL started, it was 2 weeks with maybe 1 week of Indian cricketers and yet they paid 50%(or was it 100%) of what was paid for IPL. The cost of an ad slot has to be 150% or 300% off that of an IPL slot for games between WI and SL domestic teams. It just wasnt feasible. There was a story earlier that espn wanted CL to emulate IPL i.e. have a longer tournament, time-outs etc. Now that they have the Indian tv rights, CL is no more the only Indian tournament that they have the rights for and they would gladly drop it.

Vilander Posted May 23, 2012 Posted May 23, 2012 I really wish they would do away with the CLT20 tournament and play the IPL in Sept /Oct when the weather is much more pleasant. or make cl t20 a true campions league, with reduction in number of ipl teams, reduction in price money, reduction is advrt revenue expectations, reduction in trp expectations, improvement of cricket standards..etc. eventually make champions trophy and world t20 irrelevant with clt20 as an icc event
