Expected this 2 months ago when in India I saw the furore over Namo's visit to Hyd and the euphoria of the cadres before his speech. Party is made by the Party workers, if they are not mobilized, there is no party.

Advani still doesn't like the idea of Modi as PM candidate but seeing that Modi is the most popular leader in the party right now' date=' he has conveyed to the party/RSS that he still opposes Modi but he will respect the party's decision to make Modi the PM candidate. His problem right now is with the early timing. When the state CMs themselves are saying that Modi could harm the party's chances then what exactly is the hurry to make him the PM candidate so soon...[b']he (and others) may also be thinking that if they wait till Nov and then Shivraj Chauhan wins another term then he also may become a contender :hmmm:

Yeah, and that was the reason for the push to get it done before the assembly elections. If Shivraj Chouhan wins another term, Modi's candidacy would have suffered.

Rediff reports Advani likely to publish a blog tomorrow morning castigating Rajnath Singh, Modi and BJP. If he indeed does that, BJP should waste n further time in expelling from the party. Enough of his tantrums in the name of "tallest leader of the party"

Advani chewtiya has nothing to lose from here. He is being a Haraami and spoiling (trying to spoil) BJP's decision to hail Modi as their Prime ministerial candidate, but in doing so, he is spoiling his own image in front of the people. I don't give a **** if it Advani. I would expel him from the party. I don't know why would BJP want him? For his elderly image to attract the NDA, yeah he does have good relations with the alliance, but this is a bit too much. I think Shiv Sena, and even MNS will join hands with Modi, Amma in TN may join hands an so will AD in Punjab. I think even Mamta who has been craving for the third front will join hands with Modi (Highly unlikely but it may happen). And the surprise would be if Laloo join hands with BJP (he do not intend to, but again he may).

Modi debates Ayodhya with Deobandis in closed-door meet

According to sources in Gandhinagar, Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi met a range of Muslim leaders including the Deobandis in the last week of Ramazan. In an off-the-record conversation, a Muslim community leader from Ahmedabad said that an important Islamic scholar and a member of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board had a 90-minute discussion with Modi during Ramzan. The source said, “To the surprise of visiting Islamic scholars from Uttar Pradesh, Modi assured them that the Ayodhya is not the issue of the coming elections.” The source claimed that Modi gave three reasons while debating the controversial issue of Hindu nationalists’ demand to build a Ram temple where the Babri mosque stood once. Modi has allegedly said that if former prime minister Atal Behari Vajpayee’s government in its six-year-term could not solve it, then why are the Muslims worry now? He also quoted the UP court judgement on the issue and said that issue is now in the Supreme Court. Modi has reportedly also said that more than 50 per cent voters were born after 1989 --when the Babri mosque-Ram temple movement took shape. These young voters do not resonate much with the issue. The source also said that Modi also defended his controversial remark in an interview to Reuters to visiting Muslims. In the interview when asked if he had any regrets over the 2002 Gujarat riots, he had said, "Even If I am in the back seat of a car and a puppy (kutte ka bachcha) comes under the wheels, isn't it painful? It is. Whether I am a chief minister or not, I am a human being -- I will be sad if something bad happens anywhere.” Modi told the Muslim group that he wanted to say ‘chinti’ (ant) but interviewers (agency's reporters) may not have understood the Hindi word, so he used “puppy”! Since long, Modi has been meeting Muslim leaders and interacting with them privately. A Muslim community leader based in Ahmedabad says that there is tremendous curiosity among Muslim youth to know Modi.

Modi's first rally as BJP's PM candidate in Haryana today

Newly appointed Bharatiya Janata Party prime ministerial candidate and Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi is all set to address an ex-servicemen's rally in the southern Haryana district of Rewari on Sunday. "All preparations are complete for holding the rally. There is even more enthusiasm (for it) among party workers after Modiji's naming as the prime ministerial candidate," said state BJP president, Ram Bilas Sharma. He said that apart from Modi, former army chief Gen VK Singh, too, would attend the rally along with a number of senior, retired Army officers. Haryana Janhit Congress President Kuldeep Bishnoi, an ally of BJP's, is also expected to turn up for the rally. Earlier, on June 23, days after being named BJP's poll campaign chief, Modi had held a Sankalp rally at Pathankot in Punjab on the occasion of party founder Shyam Prasad Mookerjee's 60th death anniversary. "Now, just a day after being named BJP's prime ministerial candidate and two days before he turns 63, we are lucky to have him address a rally in Rewari," he said. Responding to the proposed rally, Haryana Power Minister Ajay Singh Yadav the six-time Congress MLA from Rewari, said, "Modi should have chosen a state which is way behind Gujarat for disseminating his message, not one which is ahead of it. "Haryana is miles ahead of Gujarat in most key fields, including social welfare, especially for defence personnel and ex-servicemen," Yadav added. Meanwhile, Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Saturday publicly appealed to Modi "to save from eviction the farmers of Haryana and Punjab who have been cultivating land in Gujarat". Talking to a group of farmers who had called on him, Hooda said he hoped Modi would try to safeguard the interests of farmers from Punjab and Haryana who were living in Gujarat.

Can someone tell me why Advani is opposing Modi? Does he actually believe state elections will be affected or is it just an ego issue? Or any other reasons? Has he given his reasoning?
