In Tamil Nadu, the party has closed a deal with the regional DMDK, headed by actor-turned-politician Vijaykanth, popularly known as "Captain." :aha: The covenant assigns 14 of the 39 parliamentary seats in the state to the DMDK. The BJP has already tied up with the MDMK and is reportedly negotiating with another regional party, the PMK, to land a fourth ally in Tamil Nadu. Opinion polls predict that the BJP, led by its prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, will emerge as the largest party in the national elections, but will fall well short of a majority. So the party is keen to sign up regional parties to bolster its numbers. In the last general election in 2009, the BJP drew a blank in Tamil Nadu. The DMDK too was wiped out, but in the state election three years ago, it was placed second. At that time, it was in alliance with Jayalalithaa, whose AIADMK won the election, installing her as the chief minister. adi B Posted March 7, 2014 Posted March 7, 2014 Rethinking my position on Modi. After his pulling out of the NDTV interview. Don't know what happened. But it wasn't a newslaundry interview. And maybe Modi team came to know of this later. But here is the thing. This is not the PM I want. Obama gives interviews to Fox news. Modi has given interviews to CNN IBN, times now, headlines today, aaj tak, India tv etc. and he has been asked all the questions. Here he is brought as first guy to place his candidature. Madhu Trehan is unbiased and sort of supports him. He knows it. Politics of untouchability that he claims to be a victim of, he does the same. NDTV is biased organisation. But it is precisely why he should go there. Now he looks like a small man and not the lion he shows himself to be. There are also signs that under his tenure, criticism of him will not go down well with him. But but but. What are my options ? A polarising guy who has great leadership skills and can deliver governance. A dynast corrupt party lead by a mong. An anarchist Naxalite and his hippie followers who will take India to stone age. Not a good position. Even I agree with this post. Modi may not be the best if given better choices. But other few, including baba, are depressingly bad. I mean seriously, lalu, nitish, mulayam or whoever, how can we think of them as PMs. Kejriwal wont even have numbers so it is pointless to include him in the contest. We can talk about him in 2019. well the question raised by ravi has been answered by dial perfectly. honestly this is the stand taken by a high %age of indians (including me).the fundamentals of indian politics are horrible,but when u gonna chose,u gonna chose!!

The RSS and other leaders are stepping in to intervene but the confrontation is only building into what could become an open fight. Varanasi has become a seat of conflict, with sitting MP and veteran BJP leader Murli Manohar Joshi holding on to his seat even as Modi and his supporters work to wrest it away. Joshi who has been visiting Varanasi more in the last few weeks than in the last five years, plastered the entire city with his posters to make it clear to the electorate that he was still the BJP candidate. In a counter move, Modi’s supporters clearly encouraged by Man Friday Amit Shah have put up huge posters and boards across the city, asking people to sign in favour of Modi. They said they will collect five lakh signatures in the next few days and send it to the party bosses to ensure that Modi contests the elections from Varanasi. The BJP is supporting Modi on this and efforts are already underway to persuade Joshi to return to his old constituency Kanpur. But till last heard, the old leader was not biting Modi’s bullet, and insisting on retaining his constituency. Sushma Swaraj has also openly attacked the BJP decision to bring in the BSR Congress in Karnataka. She has written to the party president Rajnath Singh, even as the letter was ‘leaked’ to the media, opposing the merger of the mining Bellary Reddy brothers into the BJP after they had left on corruption charges to float their own political party. Sushma Swaraj has also found fault with the BJP’s decision to ally with the Haryana Janhit Congress and thereby legitimise the inclusion of Venod Sharma, father of Manu Sharma who is in jail in the Jessica Lal murder case. The letter opposing the decisions by Swaraj, makes it apparent that the BJP president is no longer consulting the top leaders of the party who were not just the decision makers just a few years ago, but also the chief campaigners for the party. Most of them are now left twiddling their thumbs, learning of important decisions through state leaders or the media. Sushma Swaraj’s decision to go public was prompted by the last. There is no backing off by whosoever is taking the decisions in the party on this, only an effort to sit down with Sushma Swaraj and convince her of the necessity of allying with the questionable individuals and their parties in Karnataka and Haryana. Modi ignored Advani’s comments in the meeting, and also seems to be ignoring Joshi who has always been a little more isolated and independent than the others since Atal Behari Vajpayee became the Prime Minister. However, again there has been no real effort to make him see reason with the BJP unleashing a “Modi army†to insult its own leader. In a news I read that a "sena" has been formed in Varanasi by Modi supporters to stop Murli Manohar Joshi from contesting from the seat he has been contesting for decades. Obnoxious. Seriously, when this guy can't value opinions of his own party leaders, how one can expect him to run a pluralistic society like India. How he would be running a government which would be formed, if it does, by support of other parties carrying totally different ideologies. It is a waste to vote to help this guy become PM.
