he just needs 1 more year he will not prolong it too much. he has hinted it is 10 months' date=' he want the ENG,AUS series at home.[/quote']If he is in good form in the Tests then I think he should play the SA tour next year but that's far away

Good. He shouldn't retire and should play 10-15% of our ODIs. Suppose if Gambhir is not available, and Sehwag refuses to play in the captaincy of MSD.:P then we may need him.

He should play 2015 otherwise we will face another humiliation in Aus and this time being a WC ,the public reactions will be much stronger

The onus is on selectors to select or drop a player. You can't blame a player for not "retiring" or pulling out. They are professional sportspersons after all and have every right to contine playing as long as they deem fit. It's unfortunate that we don't have selectors who have balls to take tough decisions or make unpopular decisions for the betterment of the team. For that blame goes to the selectors, especially Srikkanth, and not players (e.g., Tendulkar & Laxman). Hell, if all a selector had to do was to go with popular choices any one of us can do that by going with the usual suspects - Tendulkar, Dhoni, Sehwag, Gambhir, Kohli, Rohit, Zaheer etc. The mettle of a selector is tested during tough times like these where the team is going through a transition, or should go through a transition, but I'm afraid the current lot gets a big F for their efforts

Imran Khan was also 42, when Pakistan won the WC :--D

As for picking and choosing games, this is something that he has been doing for a very long time in ODIs. He has not been playing these meaningless bilateral series for a long time. Infact, before the WC, I think he played only 2 ODIs in SA. I don't think he played any ODIs before that. I don't know how is he blocking a youngster here. Sehwag comes in his place who did not play the Asia cup.

Now this is retarded, had he given the excuse that T20 WC will be played in SL and since he doesnt play that format, he wanted the full squad to get some experience but this "I will play when and how I want to play" is not right

Talk about evangelicals and their retarded faith :wall:

I think among the ATGs Rahul Dravid was the only one who has the good sense to time his retirement well. All others including Tendulkar are going to drag it on because of various commercial contracts. Commercial deals (advertising, brand ambassodor etc) are not made for retired cricketers. Right now everybody (including selectors and fellow players) are making such goody goody commets about Tendulkar (like its his call, he has the right to pick and choose etc), but the time is not far off when even Tendulkar supporters will turn against him.

i think his call should be to either retire or to play not pick and choose series and people like dhoni already want him out from odis who can forget recent australian tri series :hysterical: i htink selectors are to blame...when will this cheeka guy get replaced? :wall: or do we now need foreign selectors ?

So the CB series and Asia cup were important series but this one is not? Is Sachin bigger than the team/game to decide on his own which series he will play? For this series there is not even that excuse of too much cricket as the team has had a 7-8 week long break. Doesn't help the team when suddenly Sachin will decide a ODI series being big enough to grace it with his presence. OTOH, given his shambolic performance in CB series (143 runs in 7 matches@20 with no 50s), another failure in a couple of series and there would be serious questions over whether he really deserves a spot in the national ODI squad.
