Sean Bradley Posted July 10, 2012 Posted July 10, 2012 I am talking about bowlers who bowl with good pace, deceptively quick bowling action, but their bowling lengths and Trajectories are relished by batsmen... Few that come to my mind are Mohammed Sami, Ajit Agarkar, Fidel Edwards, Shaun Tait... On the contrary, there were similar bowlers in the great windies team of 70's with similar pace and trajectory, Malcolm Marshall, Micheal Holding?? What different did they do to sustain their career that long...or the guys like Sami & Agarkar are/were bowling to an entirely different breed and genre of batsmen who are more attacking....

Bowlers had more margin for error, even lose balls were spared because batsmen's intent was to make sure they don't lose wickets. There were few real attacking batsmen who would punish even good balls likes of Richards. First instinct of batsmen on those days was to defend and now it is to attack. Cricket has changed a lot since he advent of ODI cricket, especially since 1996 WC when SL gave a new approach to ODI cricket and then it started affecting test matches as well. Now T20 has propelled aggressive batting to a new level. Nowadays, a bowler errs a little, and is punished, 3-4 RPO in tests, 6 RPO in ODIs is a norm these days.
