He needs to be given a chance in Tests and if he fails then move on. To make a call on someone based on odi performances when clearly his best format is Tests (FC average of 65+) doesn't make sense. I would say the same thing about the likes of Rahane & Pujara. These guys' best format is Tests so they shouldn't be judged for the Tests based on shorter formats.

He averages 60 in FC, not 65+. Also if you exclude his international fixtures from List A, he averages around 40 so it's not as if he has some very ordinary List A numbers. When Kohli started off in ODIs, he wasn't someone who could score very quickly either but with experience he has developed that aspect of the game because of his strong basics. There is no reason Rahane and Pujara can't do the same in ODIs if given a decent run. I agree Tiwary is more of a hack, but I just put his name in there because he has been in the squad for a long time without getting a good run.

Looks like Mandeep Singh and some other IPL heroes are in the reckoning going by the T20 probables. I don't think it will take much to top a mediocre avg. over 80+ ODIs. Even Saurabh Tiwary would probably fancy his chances. Let's hope he does a lot better when he gets a test chance hey.

So where is Gibbs who said that Rohit sharma is a better technique than batsman like kohli? This guy is the ashraful of Indian cricket team. Has the class, the shots in his armoury yet he gets out in similar fashion. And to think of it management is making someone like tiwary warm the dugout. :facepalm:

My mistake about his FC average - thought it was around 65 or thereabouts. I am fine with Rohit dropped from odis but I want him to be given a shot in Tests. Most of the time I've seen him hit shots straight to the fielder, unable to rotate the strike and then play a loose shot to get out. In Tests he should not face the same problem as the pressure will not be there to make every ball count. He can take his time and should be able to score as he won't have fielders all around to block his shots. I just want to see him get a shot in Tests as we have invested quite a lot in him already. I say drop Laxman play him and Pujara against kiwis at home and see what he does. If he fails the whole series then move him out of the setup.

It is Rahane who averaged around 65 or above a while back...now he's back to 64. Rohit is around 60. Interesting that Rahane has played more innings and scored more runs, and hundreds than Rohit Searching for Rohit Sharma threads on this website, we see that after the CB Series (australia tour), lots of praises came for Rohit Sharma and that it is good to see Tendulkar passing the baton to another Mumbai player. Rohit hasn't capitalized on his opportunities. Kohli came later and surpassed him and made a permanent spot in the top order in the ODIs.

They need someone more solid playing number 4. Pujara should get a chance. I think he would be good coming in when 2 quick wickets are down he could come in and settle things down. Rohit Sharma clearly hasn't figured out how to play ODIs yet and I don't know why the selectors keep picking him ahead of other talent.
