So you expect a coach to teach batting and bowling to intl players now :facepalm: Role of the coach is not teaching technical skills at intl level but what I've mentioned in earlier posts above' date=' especially posts #21 and #32 in the thread above.[/quote'] Well maybe I should have replaced teaching with helping out with flaws that seeped through...now let me explain say for example Gary Kirsten would become Coach of India again and suddenly we see the emergence of Ishanth Sharma as a leading bowler,that doesn't mean Kirsten 'technically'taught him how to but corrected a few flaws or if it was Faf Du pleiss and not Amla who had scored a 300 maybe Kirsten would have gotten praise for the good work.....so my point was the guys I mentioned from both India and S.A were already perfoming to a certain standard before Kirsten and he was just at the right place I don't know if I am having a dejavu here but I remember vaguely talking to you about thie same topic and quoting Joe Paterno's example...correct me If I am wrong,that a great coach is someone who grooms talent and sets up a sporting system and culture..........The only thing great about Kirsten's stint was he didn't cause any controversies and became pally with the people who matter....I guess sometimes that is the best way to succeed in an Indian organization.

Can you tell me some of the great things Kirsten's vision,strategy and thinking accomplished?

that episode was ugly, i dont ever remember anyone in indian setup doing that...highly unbecoming of indian team. Team manager, PR manager and coach need to blamed as well as the players.

Isn't that the role of a PR manager and not a coach of a sporting team... As far as Fletcher goes,I have no idea what he does too but it is not right to blame him for our fiascos in recent months and give Kirsten all the credit for our success

I would have called a "clear the air" meeting with all the players involved (Dhoni, Gambhir & Sehwag) along with one or two universally respected players (Tendulkar or Dravid). I would have tried to nip the problem in the bud but I doubt anything of the sort happened based on the series of media statements that were released by players. Even though it may not be the coach's responsibility but I think Fletcher should have stepped in and stopped the feud from escalating.

Kirsten had more hands on approach. Even after taking over SA he insisted on having a motivational speaker for his side. Him being new to coaching he was more energetic than this so called "experienced" fatso coach.

As I've mentione din my earlier post, a good coach should have stepped in and that's where guys like John Wright and Kirsten were so good. If you want to take the approach "it's not my job" you may as well do what Fletcher's doing right now, i.e. nothing. A team with 16-20 people will have disagreements and that's where a good coach can make a difference by smoothing over minor issues, fostering team spirit, assisting with team bonding and so on. I doubt Fletcher has done any of it. I am sure Wright with Ganguly, and Kirsten with Dhoni faced similar situations but they handled it pretty well.

Also while preparing for the World Cup Kirsten got a person who climbed Mount Everest with prosthetic limbs (or facing similar adversity) as a motivational speaker. He also asked for mental conditioning coach etc. You can see the difference in what Kirsten did and what Fletcher's doing right now. Probably the only thing Fletcher thinks about is the post match buffet menu :mad:

There is little dout that Gary has brought major changes in SA approach to the game. Like he did with the Indian side, in tough situations somebody puts the hand up. This SA doesn't give in easily. They also play very ply to the situation. I would like to attribute it to Gary's presence in dressing room.

^^^ Kirsten was a pretty good coach and we are missing him a lot. Actually if we simply dump Fletcher and don't have a coach at all, that itself would be a big plus.
