Fact: Accused have been arrested in this case and are arrested/wanted in the one you mentioned. Fact: Rapes happen everywhere and no lesser in the developed countries, the numbers are out there. The per capita crime rate in India isn't high by any means, something that seems easy to ignore. Its easy though to combine poverty/female infanticide/corruption/whatever and pile it up if the intention is to bash India. Makes for a great discussion then, i suppose.

Soon these "arrested" will be back on streets ( if those arrested were truly the miscreants in the first place) running for elections and be the future leaders. These guys are so fearless now that they are clearly thinking that the only ones who should feel ashamed on camera should be young ppl accused of having a party vs. those committing gross acts of violence & molestation. For some reason many 3rd world countries have evolved to accept that slapping & punching a woman is ok but wearing a skirt is not, molestation of women is fine but a girl being out at midnight is not, partying is a big crime and against our culture but disrespecting & humiliating ppl in public or media is not. I get your point about unnecessary bashing and while that should be avoided it is actually better that ppl in India (some) actually get outraged and ashamed by these incidents vs. the craphole like Pakistan where everything is explained away as teaching of Islam. Yes rapes exist everywhere but it is worse when general masses talk about the girl not being dressed properly (as if that is a free passport to rape anyone) or being out at the wrong time. I have already heard many people in India saying on this issue that these girls were also no less than randis (*****s) so don't waste your time being too sympathetic towards them:((

Fully agree that we need massive police reform, they are almost always understaffed, undertrained & prone to external influence.

Nothing like that in Hinduism which btw is not even a religion.

Carry on please Thats your POV- In my mind the issue is clear; social, cultural, religion whatever everyone has a right to their opinion and adopting it in their lifestyle but no right to impose that mentality on others through force and violence (influencing is another matter altogether) To me solution is so much bigger than me, you, a NRI or "pure Indian" and of course arguing does not solve it but on our part the least we can do is to atleast emphasize the above and make it clear to anyone who thinks otherwise. The solution encompasses law & order to start with that deters this behaviour and a basic courtesy that calls for understanding you simply cannot slap and punch 16-17 yr olds with a sense of pride and I get it that unfortunately I am doing nothing to contribute towards that. Also I disagree that those outside the country should have to disengage completely from anything that happens in India- the problem that folks like Clarke might have is with those ppl (firangs in his words) who discuss this issue as high and mighty as if its not their issue but another lowly group of ppl. Either admit you don't consider your birth country as yours anymore and stay away or if participating then admit it is your country's and society's problem; not some isolated land.
