Suresh Raina and Test match promotion

It's really hard to expect him to avg 40 in international cricket when he hardly achieved that in FC cricket of India where all good batsmen average over 50 and those who get chance in the team are around 60.
Selectors once again selecting a player in a format based on the performances in another format  They did the same with Yuvi, Murali Vijay & Rohit, and they are continuing to do the same with Raina and Rahane  Hope the new selection panel will have better sense.

In the process seems to have messed up his game against spinners in tests. Should be asked to score truckloads of FC runs before being given test opportunities.

Raina is a hard working guy and am sure he'll get in form.. I'm okay with Raina in Test matches or he can be replaced by Nohit Sharma.. Both of them have Duminy type role. To bat and bowl a bit. Need to groom a good allrounder in Kallis mould. Irfu Pathan maybe? smiley_emoticons_kilroy_sofa2.gif

I think Raina will come good. He should be given clear guidance on what the team expect from him. 40+ runs and bowl 20+overs & couple of wickets every match. Then gradually improve his batting and move up the order. He brings in that variety in our batting lineup. I know am comparing players in different formats, but remember when Ganguly made his ODI debut, it took him over a year to get into groove of scoring runs on the leg side and at a better SR. Once he did that he become a phenomenal ODI player. Wishing Raina to become that player.

too many echoes of Yuvraj even though they are different players. Fundamentally bothstruggle vs decent swing, pace and spin. Raina was playing in SL on a 650 plays 700 pitch after Murali went. Honestly watching him play Swann whilst most others played him in their sleep was quite difficult to watch. It will be (is!) a real killer for him at Test level if you have that chink, even if you find some solution against genuine pace. And i do not see why the fact that he works hard can play in his favour too much. Nearly 26 years old been around for years.
Most other were right handers, not left handers. Swann has made his career by taking wickets of left handed batsmen. Raina does not have a solid defense. He looks more secured when he attacks, but when he defends, he is tentative and unbalanced. I don't have any hopes of him to be a successful test batsmen.

I am against the inclusion of Raina in the test squad, I personally don't see a future in test cricket, he will continue to be a very good limited over cricketer though. But now that they have decided to give him a chance, they should stick with him for a while, play him continuously for 4-5 matches and if he doesn't improve just drop him for good.
