SLICKR392 Posted August 2, 2012 Posted August 2, 2012 We may be assuming Hockey, the game which fetched six consecutive Olympic gold medals, to be our national game but the fact is none of the games or sports played in the country has the status of "national game." In an RTI reply, the Sports Ministry has made it clear that it has not declared any sports as national game whereas the web portal of Government www.india.gov.in has posted an article glorifying field hockey under the heading 'National Game'. http://sports.ndtv.com/othersports/hockey/item/194578-hockey-is-not-indias-national-game-sports-ministry Mods : Please move this to the "Chit Chat" section.

Ultimate_Game Posted August 2, 2012 Posted August 2, 2012 Disgracefull either way you look at it Indian hockey team sux so much that the governement refuses to back it up Maybe this apathy is the reason why it started sucking in the first place.
Crookbond Posted August 2, 2012 Posted August 2, 2012 Is there a need for one game to be declared "national"? I don't think so.
Ultimate_Game Posted August 2, 2012 Posted August 2, 2012 Is there a need for one game to be declared "national"? I don't think so. There's no need for national animal and national bird as well.
Jersey #10 Posted August 2, 2012 Posted August 2, 2012 There's no need for national animal and national bird as well. True...I don't under stand the importance of the national animals and birds. :cantstop:
velu Posted August 2, 2012 Posted August 2, 2012 IPL should be made as our national game :dontknow: and :mi: our national team
India-KXIP fan Posted August 2, 2012 Posted August 2, 2012 It's sad how India have fallen in hockey, Indians have so much potential in hockey but interest has really died down. I wasn't even around then but I heard people used to be glued to tv while watching Hockey in 80s. Now most can't name a single player. Factors were change to AstroTurf, game became alot more dependent on fitness rather than dribbling/ball control. India's 86 WC win and rise in Cricket's popularity. Much of India's team came from Punjab. Most kids play on grass and barely get to practice on AstroTurf until they make national side. I reckon there's only a handful of Astroturf fields in the state. Also the prize money for Hockey players in India is a joke, hence why many wouldn't want a career in Hockey. Take example of Mandeep Singh, a talented cricketer who's family disagreed with his desire to pursue a career in cricket until he succeeded. This is in a highly paying sport. When sport has low pay like Hockey, why would someone pursue a career in it?
vvvslaxman Posted August 2, 2012 Posted August 2, 2012 What is Hockey's standing in world sport? Is it as big as Football, Tennis or Rugby?
Laaloo Posted August 2, 2012 Posted August 2, 2012 IPL should be made as our national game :dontknow: and :mi: our national team :dito:
Crookbond Posted August 2, 2012 Posted August 2, 2012 There's no need for national animal and national bird as well. Well taken - we have so much of bio diversity very much difficult to have something a "national" animal. Just like we don't have a national language too. Your point being?
Executioner Posted August 2, 2012 Posted August 2, 2012 Not a single fu*k is given about national sports/animal/food. bla bla bla
Needforspeed Posted August 2, 2012 Posted August 2, 2012 Make Kabaddi our National game. And have a Kabbadi Leauge for Permanent Desis (KLPD)
DomainK Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 Not a single fu*k is given about national sports/animal/food. bla bla bla But many given about the national language or the lack of it. We have spent page after page in threads after threads discussing the same.
asterix Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 Looking at the ever increasing population of India, the National Game appears to be something else.. :giggle: Govt. should declare it now and make it official.. :hitler:
