ravishingravi Posted August 4, 2012 Posted August 4, 2012 I like Dhoni. There is little denying his achievements and his temperament. But tactically I was never sold on his skills. I remember getting a lot of flak when I started a similar thread on field placements in last NZ tour to India but as we know a lot has happened since then. But some things haven't changed. We have two new comers in SL who have not played more than 10 matches in total coming new to the crease and we have the feild completely spread out. Yes, maybe I am nitpicking here. Maybe the right time for this was after 8-0, but I feel it is right time to make Gambhir captain. I think it gives better chance to Dhoni to revive his test career as a batsman and I think Gambo has the right intensity at the moment to take India forward. We will have to take decision. Knowing Indians ( us ), we will wait for another test defeat, this time at home to reach that bridge. Nothing against Dhoni. He is a role model for many youngsters but I genuinely feel he will not able to take this team forward. I haven't seen a learning curve in his captaincy.
J P K Posted August 4, 2012 Posted August 4, 2012 . I haven't seen a learning curve in his captaincy. true same mistakes again & again :wall:
Manny_Pacquiao Posted August 4, 2012 Posted August 4, 2012 he is a lame test captain. very good ODI captain though. yeah, today was frustrating but his field spread usually works under scoreboard pressure. cant argue with his record either.
GautiMaan Posted August 4, 2012 Posted August 4, 2012 Yes its time for a change,Msd has done a fabulous job for us,but keeping wickets, finishing matches and captaining the indian side is too much to ask of anybody.
Ultimate_Game Posted August 4, 2012 Posted August 4, 2012 Dude no captain can do much when he has bowlers like Dinda and when even our leading bowlers bowl short or down the leg most of the time. Can't see any captain making a difference when these are the sort of bowling resources we have.

Can't see any captain making a difference when these are the sort of bowling resources we have. Sure but what about Ashwin bowling to two lefties. Either ways lets not restrict the discussion to merely this match. We have seen this in tests and ODIs for more than a year now. I think Dhoni simply has not improved as a captain. Granted he doesn't have great resources. But that was something no Indian captain could ever have boasted of.
vamos_rafa Posted August 4, 2012 Posted August 4, 2012 I got bored of watching the cyce agaarbatti presentation yet I stayed on. ajay Jadeja made a comment there about MSD.He said, that in Lord's, when MS opted to bowl, h e was trying to make a point to someone. It may not be true but the point he actually was trying to make was that in the last 2 years, 20 fast bowlers have been tried(is it!!!).. We have 0 bowling options and that's where noone can do anything.
Sachin=GOD Posted August 4, 2012 Posted August 4, 2012 I have been saying for a long time that Dhoni is not a good Captain in Tests. Gambhir should be made the Test Captain.
BeautifulGame Posted August 4, 2012 Posted August 4, 2012 Gambir based on his previous performances in tests overall last yershouldn't even be assured a permanent place.yet we are discussing him as our next test captain.Seriously when was the last time he scored a 100 in test? How IPL and decent ODI Series make people forget his awful performance overseas in England and Australia is beyond me.
kubrickian Posted August 4, 2012 Posted August 4, 2012 Gambhir is not captaincy material. His temperament is pathetic. Dhoni is the best captain any Indian team ever had. Some people can dream of removing him but it aint going to happen. This guy got India to No.1 test team and World cup win. Only thankless losers with an agenda of seeing someone from their city will dream of having Gambhir as captain. Get out of your regional mentality, delhi idiots.
jairamesh Posted August 4, 2012 Posted August 4, 2012 Find Dhoni some decent quicks and he will be fine.
Shunya Posted August 5, 2012 Posted August 5, 2012 Find Dhoni some decent quicks and he will be fine. and without them as well...he has done amazingly well It will be very difficult for us to find another captain/batsman/wk like him...
Ultimate_Game Posted August 5, 2012 Posted August 5, 2012 and without them as well...he has done amazingly well It will be very difficult for us to find another captain/batsman/wk like him... Give the same bowling attack to any other captain in world cricket and ask them to win the world cup and you will see what Dhoni was able to do :hatsoff: If he had the bowling attack similar to what SA have, he would be nearly invincible.

Dhoni has done remarkably well with Zaheer alone to rely on.

And even if Dhoni is to be replaced, Gambhir is definitely a poor choice as seemingly he is just the flavor of the month due to his IPL success.
Sidhoni Posted August 5, 2012 Posted August 5, 2012 He has been very successful with these tactics over the years in ODIs. There is no replacement for him when it comes to ODIs. And not to mention the bowling lineup we have, winning matches with such bowlers is not a walk in the park.
Crookbond Posted August 5, 2012 Posted August 5, 2012 Not just winning but winning with quite some consistency!
ravishingravi Posted August 5, 2012 Author Posted August 5, 2012 Yup!! I think the weak bowling is merely used a shield against any criticism of what been absolute mediocre impotent captaincy. We will lose one home series soon, because I can't see use rolling over good sides even at home and then I guess the question will be put to rest. He should remain ODI captain.
BeautifulGame Posted August 5, 2012 Posted August 5, 2012 Averages 25 with the bat last year without a single century.Definitely deserves captaincy  http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/stats/index.html?class=1;spanmin1=15+Mar+2011;spanval1=span;team=6;template=results;type=batting EVen Raina has a better average than him in that period :haha:
