I meant Sehwag was better before IPL was introduced. Till 2008 Sehwag was a beast in Tests everywhere. Since then he has played IPL, got injured post IPL everytime and played away Tests as if he was on vacation.

Nope he was able to perform on 2 Aus tours, which is more than most batsmen can say. Even on the SA tour earlier he had a 100 but in Aus he was able to handle pretty much anything they had to throw at him. Then IPL happened :((

In our 2004 tour to aid the pitches were lot flatter and Kumble was our leading wkt taker by a distance. In 2008 his great knock was on Adelaide which is one of the flattest wkt in the world

Wont be long before he moves down the order and then finishes his career. His reflexes have clearly slowed down. And that absolutely terrible fitness is not helping either. Surprisingly, he spent nearly 3 weeks at NCA prior to the SL ODIs. Wonder if he ever did any strengthening exercises while at NCA. The key question is will he last till the SA tour next year? Looking at his current shape, looks impossible.

In Australia - It's not the swing but the bounce which troubles our batsmen. The reason being we can't hit through normal length deliveries though the line as they hit the upper part of the bat. It does swing for the first hour or so but it will always be the bounce which is more difficult to cope than swing as we don't quite get bouncy wickets in all parts of the world.

The problem is Indian batting method. Indian batsmen play on slow and low tracks without much seam and swing in India so they develop a habit of playing a lot of balls and to feel them on to the bat and aren't used to leave too many balls. This becomes a problem in bouncy conditions where they can leave balls because they will swing away or go over the stumps, but because they are so used to take every ball on the bat, their first instinct is to play rather than leave which is one of the most important aspect to do well in Aus, SA, and even in England. How well one leaves balls outside off stumps. Our batsmen got out so many times fishing outside off stump to the balls which could have been left alone even SRT and Laxman struggled to leave the balls. Gambhir's usual poke outside off stump. Dravid was the one who could leave those ball all day long and he did it successfully in England, but in Aus, they bowled him straight, forced him to play rather than outside off which has been his weakness, balls coming in, and he was trapped in that plan.

Yes RKT all that true - but still it's the bounce which troubles us a lot more than swing IMO.
Vahi to main bhi keh raha hu upar wali post me. Bounce troubles them because they don't leave the balls and try to play them even when they can be left alone.

Sewhag is one of the fittest batsmen ever i had seen. He was not even breaking sweat when he scored 309 vs saffers @ chennai even after fielding for the first two days under 50 degree sun and 99.99% humidity. Also when he scored 219 vs WIndies , in the end he was just as fit as he was in the beginning of the innings. :icflove:

Last day at Adelaide is flat? Forget about reading off stats guru, if you had watched that match the pitch had cracks in it and Sehwag was batting at a completely different level to everyone else.

The problem is people don't consider turning pitches challenging - swing and bounce Wow! Turning? Arey woh toh koi bhi khel sakta hai
that is not the case. For SC batsmen, it bounce and pace and for batsmen outside SC, it is success in SC on turning tracks against class spinners that is what should be the criteria to judge them. Players are product of their environment and home conditions are bread and butter for them.
