Ultimate_Game Posted August 13, 2012 Posted August 13, 2012 Still remember the Yorker in champions trophy 2000 which castled the off stump of Andrew hall it was his and yuvi's debut series boy what an impact they made from there very first game yuvi smashing piggie and co and zak getting Steve and co out of c.t. When you have to go all the way to 2000 to think of a decent death bowling spell that says it all Zak has never been that good at the death with very few exceptions. That is the main reason he's not that good in T20s as well.
StatsRock Posted August 16, 2012 Posted August 16, 2012 Kapil Dev.. all the way. Dismissing Hadlee in the final over to seal the match was classic. They needed 11 in an over. Hadlee smashed him for 8 runs before being bowled by beauty of an yorker India won by one run. Excellent recall. This is the Mar 6 1990 game. I recall Kapil topscoring with a useful 37 as well. India won the Indira Gandhi Hockey final same day beating Korea. Ankola was also a pretty economical bowler. I am not sure if he was good at the death but he certainly was restrictive.
Crookbond Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 Reminds me of this - bad day for most of them WtH0HNSHqak
Lord Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 ^ Sachin scored a brilliant 100 in that game.n then they say he isnt a matchwinner:((
Crookbond Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 ^ Sachin scored a brilliant 100 in that game.n then they say he isnt a matchwinner:(( Yup - for some reason that was in my mind and forgot to post that. Another instance where a brilliant Tendulkar 100 was wasted.
maniac Posted September 5, 2012 Author Posted September 5, 2012 I remember the game like it was yesterday Prabhakar was bowling Offspin in his final overs
Trundler27 Posted September 5, 2012 Posted September 5, 2012 Zak is the best swing and seam bowler we have had across all formats (Kapil and Srinath would be up there as well). Since this poll is about LOI, it would have to be Zak without a doubt. Good death bowling is not just about bowling a number 11 with a half yorker like aggy and nehra used to do. A good death bowler is the one the captain would blindly turn to when the heat is on. Zak is not only looking to contain hitters but always looking to take wickets .... greatest proof of his exploits were in the fact that he ended up as the leading wicket taker in our 2011 world cup triumph... enough said. Finally, in this age of t20 even the great bowlers like steyn and lee have been smacked for crazy runs in the last/penultimate overs.
Trichromatic Posted September 6, 2012 Posted September 6, 2012 Zak is the best swing and seam bowler we have had across all formats (Kapil and Srinath would be up there as well). Lol, the bowler who remained average player during most of the career is suddenly better than Kapil because of very good 2 years now?
CoverDrive Posted September 6, 2012 Posted September 6, 2012 Case of Agarkar is quite peculiar. if you look at stats (http://stats.espncricinfo.com/india/engine/records/bowling/most_wickets_career.html?class=2;id=6;type=team) * He is the third highest wicket taker * Best Strike Rate among everyone * Lowest bowling Average after Kapil But he would really lose it big time in the crucial stages of the game so was never rate as good as his numbers were.

I don't seem to recollect the last one who bowled well for India during the "crucial stages".
Trundler27 Posted September 6, 2012 Posted September 6, 2012 Lol' date=' the bowler who remained average player during most of the career is suddenly better than Kapil because of very good 2 years now?[/quote'] Oh boy, what do I say to this? An average bowler does not play 85 test matches while arguably being called the best seamer in world cricket (for whatever time period) by multiple cricketing experts. And as far being better than Kapil, I said that him and Srinath would 'be up there as well' which means they are fairly close in terms of quality. The reason he is better imo is because of his superior strike rate which is significantly better than that of paaji across all formats. The rest of it depends on everyone's individual perception like the many folks in this thread who say that agarkar (of all ppl lol) is our best death bowler

G_B_ Posted September 6, 2012 Posted September 6, 2012 I think there were two Agarkars one Agarkar who raced to 50 wickets and was also a good batsman. another Agakar who were pear shaped after reaching that land mark. Agakar is a tragic case. Due to an injury he had to totally change is run up. Never could recover for that. Thats when he became half the player he was. Sad to say it but Aaron reminds me of Ajit in some ways. His run up is not natural and will lead to many knee injuries.

I have always been a big fan of Agarkar. He had terrific capability but he wasn't groomed well. Hes probably the Azhar Mahmood of the Indian team.
