The Dark Horse Posted August 15, 2012 Posted August 15, 2012 What have you done to the nation? is the question I'm asking myself today. Hope I will have something to answer next time around.
Swing_n_Speed Posted August 15, 2012 Posted August 15, 2012 What have you done to the nation? is the question I'm asking myself today. Hope I will have something to answer next time around. You mean 'for' the nation......
Swing_n_Speed Posted August 15, 2012 Posted August 15, 2012 Happy Independence Day everyone. The sweet scent of freedom smells goo-ood!
The Dark Horse Posted August 15, 2012 Posted August 15, 2012 You mean 'for' the nation...... Yes, thanks for correcting :D
CSK Fan Posted August 15, 2012 Posted August 15, 2012 thought of the day: Would we have been better off without Independence. Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety - Benjamin Franklin
EnterTheVoid Posted August 15, 2012 Posted August 15, 2012 Gained independence from the British, certainly, but India is still subservient to the corrupt. As long as they keep the bad people rich and the good people scared, the status quo remains.
Trichromatic Posted August 15, 2012 Posted August 15, 2012 Would we have been better off without Independence. Is this because 'we-have-to-think-something-different' syndrome? Happy Independence day. :isalute:

Crookbond Posted August 15, 2012 Posted August 15, 2012 Q1 : How is Sunita Williams "Indian"? She isn't born in India, she hasn't studied here, she doesn't work here. If her paternal ancestry is from India and that makes her Indian then she must be Slovenian too because her maternal roots are from Slovenia. For me, she's a first class American citizen and American ONLY. What makes us take that from USA? Q2 : For people who are no longer working in India or have settled outside India (for good and don't see a forseeable future to return back to India in the next say 5-10 years) - How much sense does it make for you to celebrate Independence Day? Sure you appreciate that you are a product of the country and your forefathers gave their lives for you to be free but you left the very same place for a better opportunity outside India.

Texy Posted August 15, 2012 Posted August 15, 2012 Happy independence day India Best country in the world :isalute: if you're talking about the majority that bends over and takes it from the terrorists, the greedy, the corrupt, the snake politicians then yes it is the Best country for it :winky: - Olympic village gets rotten food, Olympic prospects get shameful & shabby treatment from govt - Common man's sick relative being transported in an ambulance get stuck while the VIP goes through in traffic - Sharad Pawar gets fatter by the day while skinny malnourished farmers chooses to end his life due to govt taking over his land - Salman Rushdie, Taslima Nasreen can't travel in India and exercise freedom of speech while govt plays voter card politics - From kids' school admission to job promotion to getting selected in cricket camp -- mandatory bribes required to get things moving, to ahead of the line - Illegally constructed buildings come down killing several but the very next day similar ones pop up while the permit givers/ property inspectors enjoy their gifted vacation in Singapore - Govt protests against alleged racism against Indians in OZ yet thousands of racism cases within the country against Tamils, North Easterners, Biharis & others go unnoticed - Tax payer's money is being used and abused to build parks with monuments while roads with potholes are dime a dozen and lack of good highways preventing development of better trades - Terrorists like Kasab, Afzal guru are fed biryani and given 24/7 security while some jawans' family are living in squalor conditions...some of the country's Veterans are homeless - Dirty politics let spiritual leader Zakir Naik go around the country blaming immodest clothing on women for rape yet Ramdev & Hazare gets arrested for holding peaceful congregations - Scams after scams, scandals after scandals, the bulging greed of the ruling political family... - Streets are dirty, full of garbage...no effort by the govt or people to keep the streets clean - Common man's life has no value..few dozen dead in a blast or accident..doesn't even make it to the front page sometimes...rich/powerful/influential gets the preferential treatment - Movie made on Paan Singh Tomar exposes the bureaucracy and the reason people like him chose to pick up a weapon and fight the govt. In spite of all this...the resilience of common people in India makes me want to salute the flag....Happy 65th Independence day! :isalute:
