Number Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 Well' date=' a bowler doesn't lack a brain not to bowl full, they merely don't have the control to do it. If he bowled consistently on a good length, with his pace and bounce, he would get wickets. Do not confuse bowling full with overpitching it. No bowler can get away with consistently overpitching it or bowling half volleys.[/quote'] Its very rare to find a bowler who has control and temperament to consistently bowl the length you are talking about, just short of good length. That's ideal length in tests and catches batsmen in two minds. Fuller with no movement will usually go for runs, if it moves it'll get you edges or LBWs.
Clarke Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 Dude's extremely lucky to be included in the squad after 3 horrendous series, two of them in decent bowling conditions in Eng & Oz followed by a long break. Hope he realizes there's more than luck that has been wrong with his bowling.
rkt.india Posted August 21, 2012 Author Posted August 21, 2012 I think you have to pitch the ball up in Test cricket if you want to have consistent success against high quality players. I think a too short length was the main reason someone like Flintoff underperformed. If we look at two of Morkel's most fruitful spells on the recent tour, wickets have come from pitching the ball up! Barely any from his highly rated short ball. Absolutely agree.
CG Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 He will never get consistency unless he gets his seam position sorted out.Unless he has got his inswinger back he will again struggle against top teams as only pace is not going to work.Regarding pitching the ball up you need to be able to move the ball in order to follow that line of attack but when you are bowling gun barrel straight you will get hammered. So all in all look at his seam position.

I want bowlers to bowl a 'good length', hitting the top of the stumps and you want them to bowl short of a good length.
The Outsider Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 Take it easy people. Ishant has good genetics much better than a Dinda. Has height (bounce) can bowl 150+ etc' date= something Dinda can never achieve regardless of how hard he tries. Can also bowl great inswingers. Ishant needs to be given more time he's still young, who knows like Stuart Broad he may also come good eventually. I wonder why so my universities and research facilities waste so much of time and money when India-KXIP can figure out the genetic makeup of anyone by a few hours of TV viewing. :hmmm:
rkt.india Posted August 21, 2012 Author Posted August 21, 2012 Thing regarding Ishant and Yadav is if they are not consistent enough and not bowling fuller lengths rather than short, they will not be successful in any format. As they are reserved for tests, it does not matter and will not make them better bowler unless they improve their consistency. Inconsistent bowlers always fail. It is the consistency along with pace as an added advantage which makes a bowler a real strike bowler. Less boundary balls, bowling with the field, etc.

I wanted to say 'just short of full length' there in that post.

Trichromatic Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 Phirse Genetics! :woot: IMO in last decade we picked players who came from upper middle class, they are mommy daddy kids, whereas Varun Aaron is raw, comes from very poor background, he hails from tribal areas if I recall correctly. Now that is huge advantage, He must have faced lotsa tough situations in his life, such player has huge motivation. Amir/Asif are from poorest possible background, they were natural, there was nothing coaching etc. Same is case with our Aaron, hopefully our domestic coaches dont destroy him. We had Munaf Patel from such background (Mind you he was fastest bowler in domestic cricket, we ruined him, even if he hadnt dropped pace still I doubt his effectiveness cuz his bowling action is such).
Needforspeed Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 Will we play 3 seamers? Other than Zak' date=' I wonder whom MSD would pick.[/quote'] Cant recall India playing with 3 seamers in home series. Normally it is 2 seamers and 2 spinners.

Crookbond Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 ^ You need to have the genetics to do that, don't you? :wink2:
virufan Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 Yeah right! That elusive wicket will give him the necessary confidence
