I beg to differ I am sure if we look at our stats while chasing in odis before Dhoni and later you will get your answer. There's a calm Dhoni brings to the team and even as fans we know that the match is never gone till Dhoni is around. Before Dhoni we were like headless chickens in chases and very nearly like the current Paki team where our mantra to win the match was to win the toss and bat. In fact most of the All Time teams I have seen from neutrals (read non-Indians) has Gavaskar as the Indian who makes it to the team most of the time. I mean you can very well have a middle order of Bradman, Richards, Sobers etc. and leave out Tendulkar but Gavaskar performed against the most potent pace attack ever which has to get him the nod. I personally would pick both Gavaskar and Tendulkar in my All Time team but if I had to pick only one Indian player in the team then I would go for Gavaskar ahead of Tendulkar.

That would be blashphemy for the era when quality of cricket used to be gold, pitches were uncovered, bats were thinner, balls were smaller, stumps were wider and pitches were just 15 yards :omg: Anyways, No I don't agree that neutrals usually select Gavaskar in first eleven. Wow....No votes for Laxman.....The guy was one of the best finishers in test cricket......but looking at the replacements and our history of squandering test matches,thought Laxman would be missed more than that-the guy had nerves of steel We talk about all these youngsters,not sure about their patience and ability to handle pressure at the test level though

Naah I would go with Hobbs to partner Gavaskar with no room for Hutton My All Time XI team... Gavaskar Hobbs Bradman © Tendulkar Richards Sobers Gilchrist (wk) Warne Marshall Ambrose McGrath Kallis, Garner, Wasim and Murali to be the other players in the 15 man squad.

kapil - we still havent been able to find his replacement as the all-rounder sehwag - the batsman most feared by opponents. can change a test match within 10-15 overs kumble - best spinner we have had. biggest reason for india being tigers at home zaheer khan - best fast bowler we have had. biggest reason for our overseas improvement no need to worry about the batting apart from finding a explosive opener who can go at 90+ sr in tests. dravid & laxman have been smoothly replaced by pujara & kohli. and tendulkars replacement will end up being a far better player than tendulkar

Pardon my ignorance but I do not think a batsman can change a Test Match within 10-15 overs.

watch the test match v england at chennai in 2008 india needed 387 to win off 110 overs. without sehwag, it would have been a dull draw or an embarassing defeat. but sehwag helped india race off to 80-something off the 1st 10 overs getting a 50 off 32 balls and set india on the track to win. there have been some more instances of sehwag turning test matches in 10-15 overs

11 votes for SRT! It does not affect us if he takes retirement in ODI's. Would not be missed at all. In Tests, his form has been awful and his retirement would mean an opportunity to groom in a youngster like Rahane/Rohit.

It's would very difficult to find a player like him, but a team can do well even without a player of his caliber if there are 3-4 very good batsmen in the line-up which might not be that difficult to find for India. Fast bowler or a great spinner seems like impossible to find for India.

What are you talking about? SRT is a once in a lifetime player. I doubt there will be another batsman in world cricket who can match his records for a long time. He may not be a necessary element in ODI cricket now for India, but it does not mean, he will not be missed.

There you go again. I can bring countless examples in the past where from the same "dominating" position we easily lost the test. Give some credit to the rest of the batsmen too who scored some 250 runs otherwise that start would have just remained a start like in the 100s of time in the past and would have only changed the orgasms you have every time Sehwag's name is mentioned BTW, love the way fans think here. Sachin brings India to about 17 runs of the target and gets out in the Chennai innings. He is blamed no end for the team losing because of the incompetence of the rest of the bats. Sehwag scores a whirlwind 80 and gets out leaving us still 250+ on the last day. Sachins cores a 100, but all credit is to Sehwag who single-handedly won us the game. Yeah, right
