Shouldn't Dhoni also resign as test captain ?

Recommended Posts

He can stay in the team as a keeper/bat but only just. His glovework is sloppy and his batting fails constantly, particulary overseas. His position would really be under the microscope. Kohli, Gambhir all could be skipper. at least they would care and be bothered. Rather then going through the motions Dhoni
ok, lets make tendulkar the captain and wicketkeeper. :haha:

he should definitely quit.if the selectors have balls to ask Laxman to quit, why not Dhoni.the lack of options is a poor excuse.its not like there r ready replacements of RD,Lax.still we r ready to accept initial failures from young batsmen to groom them for overseas tour, why not do the same for Dhoni.Dhoni is a pathetic captain of fast bowlers.hes good only with spinners Kohli should be the man.I dont believe in u have to play certain games to be eligible.look at Graeme Smith.he also got captaincy very young n how well he has done.Kohli's place is certain in test team now n we need to give him the responsibilty.just bcoz Dhoni was good once upon a time doesnt mean he can go on forever
Smith is an exception rather than norm, what if after getting captaincy Kohli the batsman goes totally of course due to the burden of captaincy. Are we willing to take risk losing Kohli the batsman. He is still a baby when it comes to test cricket and the risk of losing Kohli the batsman due to burden of captaincy is a chance which Indian cricket cannot take at this time in my view. If Dhoni needs to go then I would suggest Gambhir to be made captain maybe that will infuse the spark he needs to get his batting right. If Gambhir does not perform we always have Kohli as back up with some more test under his belt . Dhoni had lot of success as captain I would stick with him for this season and see how it goes and then make a call.

I'm pretty sure Kohli would only improve with captaincy.hes thrives on responsibility.he may initially fail but with time he'll acclimatise.as a batsman he would be fine imo. as for Gautam,I dont think he even deserves to be in the side.has been fail for 2 years.we need to try Rahane. Dhoni has had successes yet as did the now retired batsmen.everybody has a shelf life.Dhoni's shelf life as a test captain is over.he would also like to free himself of burden, maybe it'll improve his test batting.

Dhoni still did better than Sehwag' date=' Gauti, Laxman and Raina despite being only a keeper-batsman whereas others were in the team as "specialist" batsmen. Any other captain from the world would not have done any better than him with the bowling resources we had and with the way the batsmen were constantly falling.[/quote'] There is diff as dhoni does not win tests matches but shewag, laxman ,gambhir can.Talking about bowling resources he had chances in eng and aus but he messed it up.Captaincy is also about leading by example .

The way I look at it is that we need to rebuild a team. There are 2 options, either what happened when Ganguly came at the helm or let MSD, who is a proven leader, to take it forward. We are devoid of options for sure so either we completely lose hopes on dhoni or, let him take it forward completely. MSD has taken the team forward in the ODIs with the help of new players and the older ones as well. And to all those who say that captains never survive a whitewash, even clive Lloyd did not resging when his team was completely whitewashed in Oz in 1975/76. I am not comparing MSD to a great captain like Lloyd or saying our team to THAT WI team, but stop using the words like shameless and gutless.
Nobody knew dhoni would be such a good captain, you need to give chance to know and dhoni performances improved as captain.

Knee jerk reactions will receive knee jerk replies - get used to it or do not do the former. Can you prove that the losses were due to MS Dhoni's captaincy ONLY? Can you prove that we have someone better to turn it around? If not, we stop whining and get on with it. But you, keep on continuously asking for chop/change. One day Gambhir has captained next day Aaron to open the bowling attack. Good luck!
We cannot do worse than 8-0.

Though the white-wash was not entirely Dhoni's fault, there were some mind-numbing desicions For eg;Who is the genius who thought of havin your WK to start bowling....I think that was the moment we surrendered...probably the dumbest move in Cricket...He still had 2 bowlers...1 Spinner.....Part-timers but stuff like that was really dumb His re-calling of Bell..Again it was a team desicion but as a leader can't you put your foot down and say no...what kind of leader does that make you? More the said about his field placings and bowling changes the less No need to stick up for him as a captain you are 50% responsible and you need to take the responsibility.

Its not a matter of whether they can or not. They might have the ability to win matches but all I know is that their stats were worse than a WKB. Which chances are you referring to? Any other captain from the world could not have done anything with that bowling lineup after Zak had pulled out in Eng.

What could we have done at MCG after that collapse in the first innings and making less than 170 in the second?

who else should he have played? He could not have replaced one of the seniors.
As I said earlier...some of the desicions might not have been his but as a leader if you are not good enough to put your foot down what is your worth? That is the reason why despite of Dhoni's accomplishments a lot of people rate Ganguly as a much better captain(For the record I am not a bong but this is true)...now don't want to make this a Gangs vs MS debate...but it's true
